Narnia is far better than LOTR.
Me

Posted on 12/10/2005 7:21:20 PM PST by mithradates

I just saw the Chronicles of Narnia. I have only one thing to say: don't listen to the media critics!!! It is easily one of the best fantasy/mythology movies that I've ever seen. I expected to have wasted good money on a ticket, but it actually turned out to be a clean and decent movie that still managed to be extremely entertaining. I would have to say that this movie is better than LOTR Fellowship and Two towers.

"I expected to have wasted good money on a ticket"

Oh, come on. Why would you spend the money if you expected it to be a waste?

Gotcha. But whenever I read "don't listen to the media critics!!" I usually think "Uh oh." I never read critics except by accident, so that's not why I'm not seeing this. Glad you liked it.

Taking my 3 kids next weekend. I would support it because it is a family movie. That means the critics will denigrate it and try to get the story of queer cowboys to be number 1.

I saw it this afternoon. It was incredible. Excellent performances by all of the actors. CG effects were wonderful. Aslan's resurrection was very well done.

LOTR had fuller battles and better camera angles, but CON had a wonderful story, good action, brighter colors, a few laughs, thoughtful points, and Biblical allegories. I'll see it again next week.

No foul language, and no sex either. Between LOTR, the Passion, Spider Man 1 and 2, and this, my taste in movies has gone way beyond the usual fare.

Aw, but they were two of the best characters! My wife loved the way they held hands, like a married couple (which I guess, they were!).

Hopefully your three aren't too little, or they'll be frightened. Although edited to be less than gorey, the battle scenes are pretty realistic - IOW, you know that people are getting killed.

TPOTC, Spiderman movies, LOTR. I haven't seen Narnia yet, but plan to early next week when I have a little time to make it to the theater.

As opposed to "bad money"?

Series, these fantasy movies leave me sleeping from boredom. I guess they're okay for young children, however, I'd rather watch a few hours of Discovery, Hallmark, and The Military Channel.

I really enjoyed this movie. Ditto what COBOL said. And I like to add that it was one of the most clean and decent movies that I've yet seen. This is rather unlike most movies nowadays. The scene of the death and resurrection of the Lion was just so incredibly well done.

The suprising thing is that critics blasted the hell out of this movie, to the point where I was actually convincing my friend not to go see it.

the substance of faith i huge in Narnia, where LOTR is more an entertainment piece.

The White Witch and her mininuns are exactly like liberal democrats in San Francisco. The seen where Aslan is on the stone table resembles a liberal bath house with Hillary Clinton on Pelosi standing in the middle. It really is great and I expect liberals to scream about this movie.

It was with some fear & trepidation that I took my wife to see Narnia last night. With the Disney name (yes, I know they only took part in the distribution, not the production), I halfway expected to see the characters "high-fiving" each other, or a bit of "potty talk".

One word - Magnificent! Take your family and enjoy. It is true to the book. C.S. Lewis would have been proud! Also, in keeping with the book, they left things open(including the wardrobe door) for sequel(s). We can't wait!

"Perhaps it has sometimes happened to you in a dream that someone says something which you don't understand, but in the dream it feels as if it has some enormous meaning - either a terrifying one which turns the whole dream into a nightmare or else a lovely meaning, too lovely to put into words, which makes the dream so beautiful that you remember it all your life and are always wishing you could get into that dream again." - The Lion, The Witch And The Wardrobe

We typically hardly ever go to the movies (always wait for them to come out on DVD for rental), but we'll be paying for tickets to this one. Last two movies we paid tickets for were Passion of the Christ and the final Lord of the Rings movie.

No surprise to see leftie newspaper movie reviews are skewed negatively. We've come to expect it from them. They wouldn't know class or dignity if it hit them straight on. If it involves religion, families, ethics or the "thought of religion" it is disgusting to them and rated accordingly. Noting they LOVE Brokeback Mountain (Oscar buzz - snickering).

Reminder Snip from last year: Veteran members of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences have grown concerned over the choice of Chris Rock as host of this month's awards show. Concern deepened after Rock claimed only gays watch the Oscars!

Here's what CNN entertainment say:

Narnia, a land of fauns, talking beavers, a dastardly White Witch, and a solemn savior of a lion, may sound like the stuff of filigreed fairy tales, but it's really a place of holy war, where the imagination darkens the more it expands.

In the lavish, spirited, at times naggingly literal-minded movie version of the hugely popular first Narnia tale, you're often aware that you're watching child actors romp through a land of concocted creatures and special effects. The snow is too studio-set frosty, and Mr. and Mrs. Beaver, voiced by Ray Winstone and Dawn French as an engaging pair of fussbudgets, come a little too close to the goofy polar bears in Coke commercials; you can see the digital seams. The centaurs, satyrs, and assorted other magic folk of the wood often look as if they'd just stepped out of a makeup trailer.

Director Andrew Adamson, in his live-action debut (after "Shrek" and "Shrek 2"), stages "The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe" with a wide-eyed prosaic eagerness that reminds me a little of the Hollywood fantasy films of the late '60s. Even when Adamson brings off a lovely touch, such as the White Witch (Tilda Swinton) tempting young Edmund (Skandar Keynes) by creating ice sculptures that turn into fruit-filled Turkish Delight, we don't quite feel how the devilish dessert has corrupted the boy's heart.
