My 73yr old Mom was going to go see this with her new 78yr old Vet boyfriend....I basically said "you do know this is a story aboot pole smokers and hershey highway boys, don't you guys?".....they stayed home. When I asked where she got the idea to see such trash it was the variety section ratings guide in the news paper and it listed it as a "Family" show and gave it the 4 stars or whatever...fricken sick.
Yeah, my non-internet using husband thought it was a new western! Giving he loves westerns, he was excited. Until I told him what KIND of western it was. He dropped the idea.
True, but I was also referring to the misuse of the term "gay".
"Gay Romance" = homosexual relationship
There are those of us who are gay (i.e. cheerful and upbeat), but heterosexual.
We must reclaim the language as part of the culture wars.
>>>No, their affairs seemed ugly to me.
Did they seem ugly to you, or did the move portray them as ugly? I know Hollywood lives the typical American 'as long as I got what I want, screw morals and screw you' attitude. I love Johnny Cash's music, and I appreciate that they were married for 40 years, but it saddens me that they portray them as the great love story and ignore the children that had their lives uprooted by their selfishness.
And one of the 40 Goals of Communism outlined in 1958 by an FBI agent:
[24] Eliminate all laws governing obscenity by calling them censorship and a violation of free speech and free press.
[25] Break down cultural standards of morality by promoting pornography and obscenity in books, magazines, motion pictures, radio and TV.
[26] Present homosexuality, degeneracy and promiscuity as normal, natural, and healthy.
And this about a Kidman film from by Rev. Louis P. Sheldon Chairman, Traditional Values Coalition Washington, DC
Homosexual activists have apparently decided to reveal the next phase of their agenda this fall in theaters all over the United States. Nicole Kidmans film.
We have long been warning that the next phase of the homosexual movement would include the normalization of adult/child sex and the promotion of polyamorymultiple sex partners as family. Apparently that time has arrived."
"pole smokers and hershey highway boys"?
Thats the first time I've seen that description!
LOL!
Cinderella Man was a superb film, and I'm happy to see that both Russell Crowe and supporting actor Paul Giamatti were nominations. For what it's worth.
beat me to it (pardon the pun)
LOL, how difficult can it be for perverted Hollywood actors to ACT gay?
Hard to believe they give acting awards for being themselves.
We must reclaim the language as part of the culture wars.
I agree.
At Christmas, when we sing "Don we now our gay apparel," does that mean we're going in drag?
When Stephen Foster wrote "'Tis summer, the darkies are gay," did he mean that in wintertime they were straight?
However, I'm afraid it's too late. We've had gay=homosexual drummed into society for so long, it may not be possible to undo it.
that's cuz they aren't very PC ;-)...that's also why they re-named the movie from Fudgepack Mountain....
Yes, Johnny was nailing up pictures of June Carter in his rumpus room and his wife objected and a huge fight broke out, with him choking her on the ground when the kids walked in. They did portray him treating his wife horribly...I kept thinkig, that poor woman.
They didnt dwell on June Carter's husbands, other than she seemed to always be on the road and her kids missing her.
Of course, leaving the theatre you start to wonder what was real, what was editorial license, and what was a rewrite.
Keep supporting this crap and we will elect to not pay to see it.
This film was made to embarrass Texas and Fly Over country. The most often heard slur thrown at the visiting Texas Longhorn fans in Pasadena this week was something about going back to Brokeback Texas or whatever. Definitely intended to insult the "tough Texan" image. Thankfully USC got bitchslapped so all their smart azzed fans can jam it right back.
I am 30 years old. I have voted in every presidential election since turning 18. Always voted GOP.
I think all references to Christianity in this country should be protected. I think the ACLU and the UN should be flushed down the toilet. I wonder why we didn't just turn the whole Arab world into a sheet of glass after 9-11? I was for it-as awful as that may sound to some. Oh yeah-CLOSE OUR BORDERS! When my freedoms and my families are threatened, I want nothing more than total annihilation for my country's enemies. I think Dick Cheney and Condi Rice should run for Pres and Vice in 2008. Since they claim they won't, how about Rush Limbaugh for pres??? Sean Hannity for Vice? Mark Levin for SOT?
Listen folks-as a child I knew there was something great about Ronald Reagan and something great about this wonderful country I was lucky enough to have been born in. But guess what else?
When I was in DAY CARE-yes day care-I had my first crush on a cute little blond with a Dorothy Hammill haircut. All my life I have dealt with "knowing" my inner feelings were wrong. It wasn't until my late 20's that I finally had the guts to stop living this way. I met the most wonderful woman with a heart of pure gold. Of course my left wing sisters accepted her but my very conservative father has accepted her with open arms. He sees what kind of individual she truly is-not just the lesbian part of her whose dating his oldest daughter.
Folks-I am a right-wing, God fearing, USA loving, ACLU and UN hating, pro US military, hard working, gardening in my spare time lesbian. And I haven't even seen Brokeback Mountain because it just doesn't look that interesting. And for all you name callers out there-get over it!
Gwen
Have you seen the "1 of a kind DOUBLE Oscar for Brokeback Mountain " on eBay? Starting bid 69¢, now going for $182.50 with 2+ days left in auction.
When will the American people get enough of the Hollywood BS?
What do we (Texans) have to do with it, other than the screenwriter being from here? It's set in Wyoming.
Does it superise anybody that the gay sheepherder movie is getting awards? The producers created a movie that punches all the "correct" buttons, of course it will win an Oscar!
