Fake kneel isn't illegal in the NFL, the problem with the play comes in when the ref thinks the kneel was completed and it wasn't. That's why a smart fake kneel call stops the fakery at the snap, don't start to kneel just let the formation and pre-lineup jesturing do the faking.

Speaking of quotes, am I the only one that remembers the on-field explanation of the reversal including that the ball was loose before Polamalu's knee knocked it out? Could someone that TiVo'ed the game double-check that?I really didn't hear the explanation well at the time.......... my head was exploding.

After further review, and a review of security provisions, we reverse the call. --- 677 posted on 01/15/2006 3:54:14 PM EST by steveegg

Offensive line has to be smart and remember the final gun hasn't sounded. One of the advantages of faking a knee is it'll help keep your line in the game, since it is the playoffs and you know the losing team isn't going to give up the winning team might as well play to 0:00 too.

We aren't seeing a lot of bad officiating because the NFL uses part-time officials. We're seeing bad officiating for two simple reasons: 1) the NFL game gets faster all the time, and therefore increasingly more difficult to officiate; and 2) the instant replay rule actually encourages poor -- or at least indecisive -- officiating by giving officials an "out" that would correct most of their mistakes. You're right, but you can add the convoluted wording of some of the "official" rules as a reason too, imo.

I hope you've had a chance to recover. I didn't get to see the game as I was driving back from an out-of-town baby shower. That 4th quarter was wild and I'm mad I missed it.A few of us are about 10 years older since Sunday morning.

Yep. Bummer for me and MOST of the NFL fans. I wonder if a team wins the SB and no one watches...does it count?

Well most SBs are a bummer for most fans since only 1/16 of the teams make it. And yet somehow the ratings are fine and the ads sell for enough to payoff the national debt. And really both the AFC teams with a shot right now have a solid cross country fan base (as shown by their ability to always have lots of their fans in attendance on road games), so the AFC will definitely be doing its part to pump the ratings.

And as far as ratings go, read the news about network execs. freaking out about the possibility of having to lower advertising rates because of the low ratings expected. I've been a Patriots fan for 30 plus yearsYour inane posts are beginning to make me dislike the Patriots. That's pretty tough, since I respect them so much.

So, the receiver could just stand there for, say, 15 seconds, not have the defense come and touch him or attempt to move, have no whistle, then put the ball on the ground, and it's an incomplete pass instead of a fumble? According to the rules as read, apparently this would be an incomplete pass.
Which is totally ridiculous.
If the "football move" language was put in place in order to disambiguize a situation where a receiver falls and the ball pops out, it should not have any bearing on a play where the receiver catches, and then gets up with the ball, and then knocks it out himself.
Has anyone seen if this talk of having both knees off the ground is actually in the rule book or is it something the refs made up on the spot?

What kind of "football move" would lying down be?LOL ....... who was the player in the playoffs who got down on the ground and made snow angels in the end zone as a TD celebration? Is that a "football move"?

I hate the Steelers. I have to second that, if someone hasn't already. Growing up in Texas, the Steelers broke my young heart on many many occasions- vs. Dallas and Houston. Although I am a Miami Dolphin fan now, I still hate the Steelers. That said, I found myself actually rooting for them to win (yesterday only) because I find Peyton Manning smug and arrogant. I've never cared for the Colts anyway.
Go Denver. Go Seattle! Seahawks all the way!!!!!

They should make the tuck rule for the receivers and DBs and the football move for the QBs.

Some of the best Super Bowl parties I ever attended where in the 70's at the Holiday In in Little Washington. They would rent the largest tv at the time and and put it in the ballroom. I used to bring up our bands sound system from the lounge(we were playing there) and mike it. It was loud and beautiful.
