Brokeback Mountain Claims Big Four At The Golden Globes

Critically-acclaimed western Brokeback Mountain cleaned up at the Golden Globe Awards last night by claiming four top honors.

The controversial film, which has been banned from some cinemas for its gay themes, took home Best Movie (Drama), Best Screenplay and Best Song prizes at the 63rd annual Golden Globe Awards, while Ang Lee picked up the night's Best Director honor from his hero Clint Eastwood.

And there were triple celebrations for Johnny Cash biopic Walk the Line when Reese Witherspoon and Joaquin Phoenix claimed the acting honors in the Comedy/Musical movie category and the film picked up the Best Motion Picture (Comedy/Musical) prize.

The win cost Phoenix dear, however - he bet Witherspoon's husband Ryan Phillippe he wouldn't win a Golden Globe. The Crash star demanded payment as his pal took to the stage at the Beverly Hilton hotel.

Meanwhile, there was a big upset for the stars of Desperate Housewives during the night's TV awards - all four Best Actress nominees from the show lost out to Mary Louise Parker, who plays a marijuana-selling desperate housewife on cable show Weeds.

But the stars of the hit show didn't miss out on a Best TV Show award - they scooped the coveted prize from Weeds, Curb Your Enthusiasm, My Name is Earl, Entourage and Everybody Hates Chris - and the show's Felicity Huffman claimed the night's Best Actress (Drama) movie award for her role as a transgender man in Transamerica.

The big TV winner was acclaimed mini-series Empire Falls, which claimed two honors - Best Actor (Paul Neuman) and Best Miniseries/TV Movie.

The full list of awards is:

Movie Awards Best Score: John Williams MEMOIRS OF A GEISHA

Best Original Song: A Love that Will Never Grow Old by Emmylou Harris, Bernie Taupin and Gustavo Santaolalla -Brokeback Mountain

Best Movie (Comedy/Musical): Walk the Line

Best Movie (Drama):

TV Awards

Best Mini-series or TV Movie: Empire Falls

Best TV Series (Movie/Comedy): Desperate Housewives

Best TV Series (Drama): Lost

Cecil B Demille Award for Lifetime Achievement: Sir Anthony Hopkins

Its sad, the continuing decay. It seems that the more repulsive something is to the normal American the more the Libs and hollywood/media hype it. It sad to see that a movie about 2 guys sodomizing each other and one about a preop transexual are the most "amazing" films of the year

No surprises there. The awards this year were pre-stamped with the name of this movie the moment it's release date was set.

No surprises here, I was not expecting a different outcome. Hollyweird will promote disgusting behavior anywhere, anytime and then reward it big time.

First rule in Hollyweird: Any show or movie portraying homosexuality in a positive light automatically wins multiple self-congratulatory awards.

Any gay drama will win an award. It doesn't even have to be a good movie.

Seriously, I'm not in the least bit surprised that Brokeback Mountain won several Golden Globes.

And I won't be in the least bit surprised if it wins several Oscars.

I can't speak for whether it's a truly good movie or not (acting, screenplay, etc) but I suspect this movie is getting the attention that other movies wouldn't get.

All because of it's pro-gay story angle.

LOL!

I just realized that the only winner I've seen, both TV and movies, was Memoirs of A Geisha which won best score.

I must be out of touch!

What do you expect when most of the judges are butt munchers.

It's very unfortunate. There are some great films and TV shows out there, but they won't win awards I guess.

The fact that the Golden Globes are selected and voted on in a vacuum by the foreign press is enough to completely negate their worth. They are meaningless as far as the American public is concerned.

The most depraved woman always wins. "Housewives" could have won for their actresses by portaying them as meth addicts or prostitutes.

But they were in lovvvvvvvvvvvve! (gag me)

If it was not about the act of performing sodomy on one another they WOULD NOT be in lust, how many guys have male friendships, go out ropin, drinking and sit around a campfire talking, all of a sudden become so smitten with one another that they end up in the tent? maybe they were injesting gypsum weed or Payote?

I must be out of touch too.

My girlfriend asked me to go to Memoirs of a Geisha. I rolled my eyes and sucked it up.

But you know what? It was a decent movie. I couldn't complain.

A movie that they can only release in certain liberal markets, then it is refused by some of them, and it is the best? As I understand on top of that they aren't cowboys, they are sheepmen.

Was there any doubt? These are a political statements, nothing to do with reality. Bareback Mountain was a kiss to the behinds of the gay community and nothing more.

The only deserved award was Hugh Laurie for "House". But I hope that the Emmys don't snub Kiefer again for "24" just because the show's producer likes Rush Limbaugh.

The homosexual sheepherder movie was going to win those awards despite it being an especially dull movie.

Some weak guys abuse each other and then spend years cheating on their wives and making moon eyes at each other.

That kind of action makes seconds seem like hours.

But, it was annointed by the gay lobby in hollyweird and not even its being a crappy movie would change its winning globes and oscars. The point, of course, is to propagandize american families -- especially the young.

The Golden Globes are pretty goofy. Let us never forget that the talented Pia Zadora won one several years ago. :)
