Harry Belafonte Compares Homeland Security to Gestapo, Calls Bush a Liar
NewsBusters ^ | 1/22/06 | Noel Sheppard

Harry Belafonte is at it again. The Associated Press reported last evening (hat tip to the Drudge Report) that the entertainer, in a speech to the Arts Presenters Members Conference, “compared the Homeland Security Department to the Nazi Gestapo on Saturday and attacked the president as a liar.”

The article quoted Belafonte as having said, “‘We've come to this dark time in which the new Gestapo of Homeland Security lurks here, where citizens are having their rights suspended.’” Belafonte once again had nothing but disdain for America’s current president:

If Belafonte had to spend one minute living under the oppression of dicators he supports, he would come running back to the Bush "dictatorship" crying like a baby.

The Gestapo wasn't about listening to people's conversations. It was about ending them.

I'm sure if he went there and trashed communism or Hugo Chavez, the country's secret police would have carted him off and thrown him in some stinking dungeon with no phone call, lawyer, let alone a fair trial.

Communist Belafonte is cross-eyed and cognitively disordered. Reality and truth elude his ideologically brainwashed mind. He's a useful communist puppet-fool. What a comedy and waste! Speaking in socially/polically unstable South America against the U.S.A. Belafonte is preaching to the typical So.Amer. quasi ruling establishment of Third Reich expatriates and embittered Trotskites.

Democratic institutions and the rule of law were at risk throughout much of Latin America. Political instability – fuelled by corruption, organized crime, economic disparities and social unrest – resulted in several attempts to bring down governments. Most were by constitutional means but some, as in Haiti, by-passed the democratic process.

Political armed groups and criminal gangs, principally those engaged in drug trafficking, had an increasing impact on people’s fundamental rights. Poverty and discrimination affected millions of people, particularly the most vulnerable groups – women, children, indigenous people and Afro-descendant communities.

Positive developments were seen in the vigorous campaigns maintained by human rights defenders, who held both governments and armed groups to account, in defiance of harassment and persecution. Courts in several countries gave rulings that brought closer the prospect of bringing to trial military and political leaders responsible for massive human rights violations in previous decades...

Hugo Chávez has a death wish
By Gustavo Coronel

19.01.06 | Does Hugo Chávez have a death wish? It sounds hard to believe. With a war chest overflowing with petroleum dollars to buy allies and favors; with apparent total control of all Venezuelan political institutions; with a Congress where his followers have 100% of the seats; with an Electoral Council that has it all programmed so he cannot possibly lose an election; with Harry Belafonte next to him on Venezuelan national television, shouting loudly in his favor and denouncing George Bush as the worst terrorist on earth, this man should be on top of the world. . . . But he is not. He looks and sounds vulnerable...

Chavez might be rational enough to realise that delusional communist Harry Belafonte is not a cogent prop for Chavez's continuing dictatorship.
