Sheesh!
That uptight yuppie scumbag is soooo not Magnum. Magnum is a totally relaxed character. What's next.. George Wendt as Higgins? Miscast.
To: presidio9
Before you ask, Tom Selleck will turn 60 on Sunday (happy birthday Tom), and, yes, he could still kick George Clooney's ass.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. He'd even be a bad choice for Higgins. What a disgrace. I bet they'll even have a new theme song. And it takes place in San Francisco. And he's an environmentalist research scientist instead of a PI.

1. Did he really say "Mum"?
2. Why not have Tom play the part. Then I would go see it.

Judging from the wild success of Clooney's "Batman", this will work great.

Clooney is slated to play Magnum PI but there will be some rewrite from the original series.
Magnum will be a Vietnam draft dodger instead of a former navy officer. Will drive a hybrid instead of a sports car. And will live in Vermont instead of Hawaii.
He will also have a drug problem, a gay son and Mr. Higgins will be a cross dresser.
The perfect Hollywood film.

Why does Hollywood continue to think that remaking cheesy TV shows and old movies is a good idea? Who really wants to see a new version of Miami Vice or The Pink Panther or this garbage? You tell me there aren't any original screenplay writers out there with new ideas?

Going to TV is a great move George. Sort of like going from a CEO to a mail clerk.
Tom Selleck is twice the man you are George! We don't know what his political opinions are but you cry retreat like a baby with yours!

Nothing "cheesy" about Magnum PI. Great show, where characters evolved and progressed (but without long arcs). It was one of the first shows to portray Vietnam vets in a sympathetic light..

Look at his record. He's had four movies make over $100 million: Batman and Robin; A Perfect Storm; Oceans 11 and Ocean's 12.
The first was a franchise--he didn't make it that money. In fact, his entry killed the franchise until last year.
A Perfect Storm was a huge bestseller--he didn't make it a hit, the scale and subject matter did.
Ocean's 11 and 12 were ensemble pieces and remakes.
George is a multimillionaire who can't make a hit. Of course he needs to rely on yet another person's success, as with those four movies above, to keep up the illusion that he's a box office draw.
Check out the other movies on that link, the original projects in which he is central. Compare their box office with their production costs, and womder about the bizarre minds running Hollywood.

Film bosses believe the handsome star would be perfect as the suave private investigator, played by Tom Selleck in the classic TV show. First thing you oughta do is actually watch the TV series. If they think Magnum was suave, they never watched the show. The character was constantly messing up, running through cases like a bull in a China shop. Suave would not be close to an accurate description of Magnum.

Um, we know quite well what Selleck's political views are. After Clint Eastwood, he's hollywood's ranking Republican.

I was silent when they released Saved a couple of years ago.
I said nothing when they aired the blasphemous Book of Daniel.
I stood by when they cast outspoken homosexual activist Chad Allen in End of the Spear.
But I can remain silent no longer. How dare they desecrate the memory of Magnum PI!!

Who's drinking acid laced KoolAid? George Clooney is a legend in his own mind. Go ahead and do the movie so we can watch that one bomb too.

"2. Why not have Tom play the part. Then I would go see it."
First of all George Clooney is an idiot. (I just had to say it.) Secondly, I spent nearly EVERY Wednesday evening of my life during the "Magnum P.I." years with a bottle of wine, a few bottles of nail polish and my best girlfriends.
Selleck is total eye-candy, no matter how old he (or I) get!
Now please, someone explain to me why Monica would choose Chandler over Tom? Good golly. "Friends" totally jumped the shark with THAT story line, LOL! He was the only reason I ever tuned in to that dopey show!
And let's all take a moment to remember that scrumpy Robert Urich as "Spencer: For Hire"
George Who?
