Manly DJ gives in, will see 'Brokeback'

You can add KTYD's Matt McAllister to the list of guys, including President Bush, who've made it clear they wouldn't be caught dead at "Brokeback Mountain."

The manly McAllister, host of the "Early Show" on 99.9 FM, has told listeners he doesn't do "gay" films.

But thanks to Roger Durling, director of the Santa Barbara International Film Festival, that's about to change.

At 2 p.m. today, McAllister and Durling are headed to the Fiesta 5 Theatre for the 2 p.m. screening of the Heath Ledger/Jake Gyllenhall film.

"I told him I would hold his hand through the scary parts," Durling told me. "I've seen the film several times and know when the scary parts come up."

What was McAllister afraid of in the first place?

"I think there's some hot man love in the movie," he told listeners on Friday. "And I might be a little squirmy."

Durling assured McAllister that seeing a movie about a couple of cowboys trying to figure out their sexuality won't turn the happily married radio personality gay.

Then he asked him to come along.

McAllister eventually gave in, but he doesn't want to do it alone. He's encouraging all men who are afraid to see the film to join them.

I wasn't planning on seeing the movie a second time, but maybe I'll go, just to see how McAllister handles the "scary" parts.

If you want to see the movie with some like-minded men, come on down to the Fiesta 5, 916 State St.

I love how the first line includes a reference to Bush, even though it is completely irrelevant to the topic of the article.

Not only that, it assumes a fact not in evidence.

I wouldn't pay to see it, or help promote it. But I would watch it, just to see how badly the film measures up to the hype.

I suspect it's gonna be a hot item on Netflix. People are just innately curious critters and a lot of people who wouldn't go see it in theater and might not check it out at their local Blockbuster are gonna wanna see what all the hype was about.

I should've gone and seen "The Wedding Crashers" because doing so would've broadened my horizons and taught me something about tolerance and acceptance of bastards who crash wedding parties.

No really... I should probably go and see that home video put out by the KKK where they burn crosses and do famous reenactments of lynchings. It will broaden my horizons, and maybe someone can hold my hand during the scary parts.

After that I'll rent some of Hitler's speeches. I can learn a lot about Germans and Austrians by watching Hitler.

Afterwards, I'll politely end my enlightened life.

I watch movies to be entertained. I watch documentaries to learn things. I don't do gay propaganda films designed to make me feel sorry for a couple of cheating husbands who broke their wedding vows. Gay people should be no more exempted from the consequences of their actions than their straight counterparts. New Jersey's former governor used his homosexuality to escape the consequences of his corruption and abuses.

Being "gay" is not a get out of jail free card. It is not an excuse for cheating, stealing, lying, or hiring your boyfriend to the highest security post in your state.

If being gay can be used to excuse homosexuals of the worst kinds of mistakes, it is an admission that homosexuals are naturally inclined to be incompetent, dishonest, and self-destructive. Are homosexual activists really ready to push that perception of gay people on the world?

I for one believe gay people are our equals in flaws and capacities. I think homosexuals suffer from the liberal soft bigotry of low expectations. Conservatively minded homosexuals that I have met in my short years are capable, honest, and competent. Liberal homosexuals call such conservative homosexuals all kinds of names.

Really, there's no difference between the plight of African Americans and homosexuals in this country. Both groups bow to liberal ideologues and allow themselves to be herded about on their respective plantations as victims of conservative oppression. Even though such oppression does not exist. It is the invention of the liberal leadership, the bogeyman that keeps them voting for Democrats. Liberal ideologues tell homosexuals to live their lives promiscuously. They call for homosexuals to be indecent and vulgar. Liberal ideologues tell black people that their poverty is the result of white oppression. They tell black people that they're too dumb to make it on their own. They point out successful black people business people and call them "oreos" and point to drug addicted rap stars and call them "heroes".

I'm sorry... I'm ranting again.

Go Seahawks!

I'm sorry but I do not do love story movies even if the story is about humans, dogs, cats, Big Feet, chupacabra, extraterrestrials, any combination thereof or whether or not the plot involves normal or abnormal behaviors. This is simply another movie for women and girly-boys.

I TRIPLE-dog-dare you to see this pansy movie -- or you're a pansy!

I guess if they can't get straight guys and sensible women to see the film on it's merits, they'll see if they can get them in on a dare.

Don't add to the numbers. Just say no to Brokeback Mountain.

If your friends jump off a bridge, would you?

You don’t how refreshing it is to hear real conservatives on the issue of watching films that offend our sensibilities. Another “conservative” site I came from is full of individuals who think you have to open minded and see every important movie to broaden ones’ horizons. They confuse being closed minded with having discernment. Thankfully I can visit sites like this BEFORE I see a film. In fact it was FR that helped me confirm plans to avoid Munich, Syriana and Kingdom of Heaven. To be honest I never had any intention of seeing Brokeback. I have been conned before in giving liberal agenda pieces a “chance” like that Madison County movie that Clint Eastwood put out some time back, only to have my suspicions confirmed. Besides, as soon as a movie is a contender for the Academy, that pretty much communicates to me that the movie will be either offensive or more likely boring as paint drying.
