Welcome to the new FreeRepublic folding@home thread. The previous thread has gotten too large, so we move on to yet another.

While this folding@home team is not officially sanctioned by Free Republic, it's 250+ members comprised primarily of Free Republic members in good standing have banded together to donate their excess CPU cycles to a worthy cause. Via distributed computing, millions of computers around the world, contribute directly to scientific research, in the quest for a greater understanding of diseases such as Alzheimer's, Cancer, and Mad Cow (BSE).

Currently, the team is in 241st place, having moved up from 1200th place, a week earlier, and is now in the top 100 teams, for daily contributions.

This is an entirely voluntary program, and if you want to learn more, please see the links posted below (or read one of the previous 8 folding threads)

We're are moving to become one of the elite teams. We're currently #33 overall in terms of number of active members. 20 new members would push us up to #27

Huge CONGRATS to Klutz dohanger for being #16 of all folders based on last 7 days' production!

Wow...has Frog Mom seen this?

By the way, I defy anyone to watch the whole video and not get misty at the last frame. It's a little hard to type right now...

Oh, now-- don't you know that Klutz is a "co-opter" of computer labs?? I found this out over at the DUmper. Yes, it's true! He's "really killed the friendly spirit of it" by co-opting "work and lab computers." LOL!! You can read it all here, at the DUmp. Post #4 will set you straight about how low we are, and how great DU folders are.

Thanks for the link.

They're funny over there, LOL.

Check out this quote "But you know what's really funny about all of this? We're winning on the numbers of active members. We're growing, they've stagnated and are losing numbers. Which means, in the end, even though they've done their best to pile it on, we will outnumber them and they know it. . . . Our numbers will continue to grow without co-opting computers. Wait until the day that the top freepers lose access to the co-opted computers (and maybe their jobs) or otherwise figure out the hypocrisy of dedicating medical research to Ronnie and stop crunching. I know I ran SETI for over 7 years. I'll run F@H for as long as it exists and I know from posts that there are plenty of other DU'ers who remain committed to running DC programs."

Isn't the second one down, the 4.0 version, what you want for '98?

Corporate Mike needs a math education, and Mabus truly must be from another planet. Or perhaps an alternate reality.

"Klutz is a "co-opter" of computer labs?? I found this out over at the DUmper. Yes, it's true!" Oh the shame and horror - I don't know if I can stand being on a team such as this I'd love to co-opt a few labs myself!

Yeah, I wanna co-opt a computer lab too. Sounds like fun, and it would sure boost my folding score. Maybe I could get past 137th place.

LOL! Now I remember! Priceless! DUh! (It doesn't seem very morally superior for DUmpers to co-opt FR graphics, does it? )

I have been stuck in the 120s since I joined. I co-opted my son's gaming computer tonight...I should start moving up the rankings in about two days. That thing will outrun both of the slow desktops I have folding now.

Yeah, I don't want my gaming to interfere with my folding. ;-)

Just tonight? What took so long? Oh yeah...Smart move in paying off the Super Bowl bets with the slower CPU. LOL

I BORGED my wife's work 'puter.
