Spotsylvania Assistant Commonwealth's Attorney Thomas Shaia likened the situation to investigators buying drugs from a drug dealer -- a necessary violation to prove a larger crime.

That would be a valid analogy if investigators buying drugs from a drug dealer actually used the stuff.
