Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Through shadows to the edge of night
New verse:
|
Upon the hearth the fire is red, Beneath the roof there is a bed; But not yet weary are our feet, Still round the corner we may meet A sudden tree or standing stone That none have seen but we alone. Tree and flower and leaf and grass, Let them pass! Let them pass! Hill and water under sky, Pass them by! Pass them by! |
|
|
Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate, And though we pass them by today, Tomorrow we may come this way And take the hidden paths that run Towards the Moon or to the Sun. Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe, Let them go! Let them go! Sand and stone and pool and dell, Fare you well! Fare you well! |
|
Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight. Then world behind and home ahead, Well wander back to home and bed. Mist and twilight, cloud and shade, Away shall fade! Away shall fade! Fire and lamp, and meat and bread, And then to bed! And then to bed! |

Maybe they were a "low-battery warning" vibration.

Possible! Nothing else makes sense... Seems if it was a low battery, then turning it off should stop it. Maybe you aren't near the charger and it seems like it would just drain the battery faster to vibrate.

That was probably the weather-radio alert. There should be a button or channel for NWS updates.

Indeed. ;~D
We've been using them as a good way to talk back and forth with Rosie when she's over at HerNewPlace. They should work good for that! Less formal than a phone call.
This morning though, Rosie heard "THE F'IN STRUCK WON'T START!" out of nowhere... that was funny ;~D

I think it must have been low battery... it was one of them first, then the other one within a minute or two.

Seriesly... Cartman's got something really wrong with him. He's panting and his ears are bright red. Called the vet, they can get me in at 3:30 - I'm going now and wait and see if I can get him in sooner. I don't want him mingling with the other cats.
Rosie - I shoved him into your tiny cat carrier, because mine's still up at the beach house. He looks like those bonzai kittens in a jar.

This is the story that's got Richmond all riled up today:
Park's 2 bears killed after bite
Boy, 4, scaled fence at park; Officials cite public-health risk
Two perfectly healthy bears put down because some "parent" wasn't watching his kid. The kid didn't even need any stitches.

Just plain stupid.
The kid broke the rules and the bears paid the price.
Granted....the kid's only four, so in that case his parents should have been reprimanded and fined.

Panting and red ears?! I sure hope he hasn't gotten into some kind of poison! The vet's office is the best place for him, in case he gets worse.

But he hasn't vomited - or at least Hair hasn't mentioned that. He'd be vomiting or drooling if it was poison.

Well... I'm back.
I didn't make it all the way to the vets. Cartman seems fine now. I am so full of self doubt I just don't know what to do.
Here's what happened. Cartman came in, and, I might add now, seemed a little frantic... He came gallumping across the yard like he was in what he calls a "hurry". He then started pacing around rather out of sorts. He knocked some dishes off the desk, and then went up on top of the little bookshelf the other cats jump up on a lot but he never does.... knocking the picture frames off onto the floor as he went. This is when I noticed he was panting... and he looked scary! Growling at me when I touched him.

Well, I called the vet and acted like I thought he was dying, had this tense conversation with the vet about whether, if I came right in could I get in quicker than 3:30 because it was such an emergency, shoved him in the crate and posted what I posted before and headed out the door.
On the way there I could tell that whatever it was had passed. He wasn't panting, he wasn't frantic, he purred when I opened the gate and pet him. I stopped on the side of the road and tried to figure out if I should still even go to the vets, let alone trying to trot into the lobby and act like I was having this big emergency... They'd look at the cat sitting there all relaxed and think I was a lunatic. There's nothing unusual or wrong with him ~now~.
So I came home. The cat's still in the crate and happy there... I still have the other cats locked in the bedroom, and he's been grooming and now he's napping. He purrs now when I pet him.

And I've been staring at him trying to figure out what to do. Appointment in 30 minutes... But nothing to see. WTF DO I DO NOW?
vetvetdoug, I've always appreciated your input before. I hope I'm not abusing the privilege...

My advice, take him to the vet and describe what happened, have the vet examine him. The vet may be able to see some evidence of what was happening earlier. If not, at least the incident will be on record in case anything unusual happens again.
Always on a weekend, isn't it?

Well, for good or ill, I cancelled the appt. Talked to the vet too instead of just the receptionist before. They're open till 7:30 tonight, and open tomorrow too, so we left it that I would bring him in if I saw anything remotely unusual again.
