HAPPY FAT TUESDAY!
February | Li'l ol me

Posted on 02/28/2006 6:17:59 AM PST by LongElegantLegs

Alright, who's going out tonight? Where are you going? What will you be doing? Does your mother know?

Remember, Allahtm hates costumes like this, so Bedazzle your bikini, celebrate Catholicism, and flip the bird in a generally eastward direction!
According to internet sources:
In the Christian calendar, Shrove Tuesday is the English name for the Tuesday before Ash Wednesday, which in turn marks the beginning of Lent. In many solidly Roman Catholic countries in Europe and the Americas, this is the last day of Carnival. In some historically Francophone places it is Mardi Gras, French for Fat Tuesday; the most famous Shrove Tuesday celebration is the Brazilian Carnival.
Also, something about pancakes.
Whatever.

What are you giving up for Lent? Are doing it because you're Catholic, or because you live with a Catholic, or because it's tradition? Or are you ignoring Lent altogether(sinner!)?

What about King Cake?

Last time I had one, I broke a filling on the beads and the string got caught in my teeth. I really hate getting the string caught in my teeth.

Like I'm cooking them when I can go to the real polish bakery to get them! HA! LOL!

Thanks for the recipe, though.

Also, something about pancakes.

The Lenten fast used to involve the cleaning of the house of leaven, like the preparations for Passover. So Fat Tuesday was the last day to make delicious baked goods. Hence pancakes.

female attendees, I'll throw them a few beads and see what happens.

What if Mother Sheehan's there? Ya gotta be inclusive, after all.

I worked in the CBD in NOLA in 1975-77. We had the day off unofficially because the traffic supposedly was too bad to get to work. We used the office bathrooms though.
