Time for a new FreeRepublic folding@home thread.

Our FreeRepublic team of 300+ members comprised primarily of Free Republic members in good standing have banded together to donate their excess CPU cycles to a worthy cause. Via distributed computing, millions of computers around the world, contribute directly to scientific research, in the quest for a greater understanding of diseases such as Alzheimer's, Cancer, and Mad Cow (BSE).

Currently, the team is in 164th place (with 992 CPUs - nearly 19,000 completed Work Units and 2,982,241 points)

This is an entirely voluntary program, and if you want to learn more, please see the links posted below (or read one of the previous 8 folding threads)

we might need 3... I have one that I think will have to be taken down in a week or so. It's old and slow, though, so it shouldn't hurt too much when it's gone.

Lost a few, added a few, but the good news is, we just received a batch of 180 new AMD64 3200's. Finished the drive image today, and guess what I made sure was on it? A few might start clocking in, later on this week, or early next week.

Lol.. I sure have been sucking wind on the weekends. I think I sunk to a new low, this Sunday. The boss is nice enough to let me borg, but he's still a cheapskate, when it comes to energy. Thank god for Microsoft, releasing new patches. I've got a full 4 1/2days of 24x7 operations to get caught up.

Anyone else watching that battle for 2nd place? I have this sinking feeling, that when I shut down for the summer, they're going to be gunning for me. :)

Should be interesting !!

I lost points recently when I had to pause the laptop for heat reasons and forgot to turn it back on. Whole weekend lost.

Klutz to the rescue! Glad to hear everything is OK with you. We look forward to seeing the impact of those new AMDs.

Thank you all for the suggestions and help. I just got home from NH - it just wouldn't work thru the hotels connection for 4 days. Now after traveling for 2 days - fun in Chi Ohare yesterday - I pluged it in and ba da boom - completed unit sucked off my system and a new WU delivered in a flash -

Folding on the 2 Gig laptop once again.

Someone should try to capture the 3 million milestone image from EOC's website.

It will be a major milestone for our fairly young FR team!

corporate_mike Mon Mar-13-06 11:13 PM Response to Original message 10. #413 (with 327 CPUs) - FREEPers #164 (with 988 CPUs) -Kos #917 (75 CPUs)

Freepers continue to outfold us.

I expected their production to drop but they continue to add new CPUs.

Yep.... more new users with multiple cpu's, and our active to inactive ratio is much better.

It must be really really difficult for the DUmmy members to see our team approach 1,000 CPUs while they seem to be stuck at 330.

Just imagine the horror of the "intelligent, highly educated" DUmmy crowd being outfolded by a team of "rednecks" :)

Red-Neck Folders from Outerspace!

I really don't like these 2106/2107 projects. The 2106 seems as hard to fold as the 2107 with half the points. I wish the points would be re-calibrated.

He's not the silliest one over there. He's just really bad at math.

They just had a guy propose co-opting LIBRARY computers. Like what does he think that will accomplish? First of all, they're in constant use, from opening until closing, they're going to get shut down at night, and I know for a fact, several of my local libraries, are still using Compaq Deskpro 2000's, that I contracted out to install, in 1997. Imagine that ancient beast, trying to get it's bytes around one of them big proteins.

I can't imagine, too many public libraries, having a pool of "folders", just waiting to start bending proteins.

I'm falling behind!!!

I got assigned a 10,000 step WU and still only 3/4 of the way through after days of processing!

Looking at the relative closure rates... even with our current "slowed down by the energy manager" rate of folding, it'll still take them 160 days to pass the next to the last team we just passed, and the team we just passed in the 3pm update, they aren't overtaking at all.

They need to triple their number of active CPU's, just to keep from slipping behind, they sure aren't gaining any.

We're 8 days away from SISD, but I'm trying to kick it up a notch this week, thanks to Microsoft, so we'll see if we can't put that thorn in our side (the only team to ever pass us), to rest, by midweek.

Next up, that team that's "Totally in to science"... and I'm looking forward, to the slew of extremely bad jokes, regarding them, as we examine their team in the rear view mirror...
