Time for a new FreeRepublic folding@home thread.

Our FreeRepublic team of 300+ members comprised primarily of Free Republic members in good standing have banded together to donate their excess CPU cycles to a worthy cause. Via distributed computing, millions of computers around the world, contribute directly to scientific research, in the quest for a greater understanding of diseases such as Alzheimer's, Cancer, and Mad Cow (BSE).

Currently, the team is in 164th place (with 992 CPUs - nearly 19,000 completed Work Units and 2,982,241 points)

This is an entirely voluntary program, and if you want to learn more, please see the links posted below (or read one of the previous 8 folding threads)

Typical Democrat--Co-opting is evil if conservatives do it, but it's a fine thing if DUmpers do it.

don't feel bad.

My hotrod laptop got one of those 2107 job, with 20,000,000 steps, and is 91% through, after 5 days of folding...

It's agonizing, I tell ya... :)

On the bright side, when you look at the really active teams, everyone has taken a performance hit, since the 2106's, and 2107's have been handed out. Everyone is "choking" on these.

I was wondering if Corporate_Mike was a mole and just playing dumb. He's always posting the stats, no matter how lopsided they are and pointing out the DUmmies are getting their *#$ kicked bigtime.

That occurred to me once a couple of weeks back. It could be. I wonder what his point production is for DU?

HA! You know, after I posted that I thought maybe it was too much of an inside joke.

On the frequent "DUmmie FUnnies" threads, this an occasional reaction to a DUmmie that is frequently in the position of snapping the other DUmmies back into reality.  It is suspected that such a person might be a FReeper attempting to bring sanity to the asylum.

Thus, when a DUmmie is caught trying to enlighten his fellow DUmmies, he is labeled a:

LOUSY FREEPER TROLL!!

Ah. thanks. The only DU thread that I visit is the folding thread. Much more than that, and I feel like I need to hose off my PC. That would be deleterious to its health.

Hehehe... I've been wanting to post on one of their folding threads, but I've been saving my sock puppets, for the right moment. If Corporate Mike, is one of us, he or she has a lot more patience than I do, I would have giggled uncontrollably, and exposed myself by now. :)

Actually, I was reading that as a poor attempt at motivativating their camp to get more CPUs.

Anyhow, they will be in the Top 400 within a few days. Who would have thought that a bunch of unemployed libs could achieve this much, LOL?

well... back around last Christmas, we didn't even think that we'd be this far... I can only presume, that a major part of their success, has been tagging along in our slipstream, with beating the freepers, a reason to join, and then when situational stagnation manifested itself, they lost interest, and moved on. Instant gratification is the name of the game, with that crowd. Freepers are a much sturdier, and more mentally stable lot. Look at guys like Lrenh. Quietly folding his way up to #129 in the all time folders list, then shifting his cpu's over to the team, and then back to quietly folding for team 36120. I hope to have that kind of dedication, 7 years or so into this.

I doubt seriously there will be a dummie team actively participating in 7 years from now. But I'd put just about any kind of wager you want, there there WILL be a freeper team, with active folders.

And you've also noticed, that they're now on their 5th major cheerleader in 3 months, the other 4, having disappeared, and their "founder", NYLiberal, is nowhere to be found, and hasn't been seen or heard from, in weeks.

Geez... it must really *(insert)* to be a liberal. :)

I noticed too that their founder "ny_liberal" is MIA.

She must have been discouraged when she realized that they won't catch us for a long time.

This competition is sort of addictive, though. It's a lot of fun. I like winning :)

That's the spirit. Throw them a few bits of info, maybe good, maybe bad, keep them guessing. "Hmmm, Is he a troll or am I just paranoid?"
