Teacher's Aid Accused Of Sex With Student
KELO-TV ^ | 16 March 2006

A teacher's aid from Hull, Iowa, is accused of having sex with a 15-year-old student.

38-year-old Kelli Cuperus works at the Boyden-Hull Community School and was arrested on felony sexual abuse charges.

The Sioux County Sheriff's Department believes the first incident happened in May of last year, when the boy was still 15 years old. That's where the sexual abuse charges come from, because the boy wasn't old enough to consent.

After seeing her pic, Kelli Corpse is a more appropriate moniker.

That's mean.

By iowa standards, she's a hottie.

I have been a public school teacher for 15 years.

Why haven't you left?

Just wondering

Even school teachers make mistakes when they've been up all night...or maybe just us bad ones do.

I'm sure all you civilians who are so quick to criticize us when me we make even the least mistake have absolutely nothing to do with the fact that good teachers are leaving the field in droves.

Maybe you should consider going into teaching. Heck, I'll even give you my job, and you can sit around all day wondering when one of your Gothic kids is going to come to class stoned and blow your brains out...but it won't matter as long as you spell everything perfectly and make certain that your grammar is correct...and besides, why worry? You'll be making almost 25K a year. You'll be making enough money to hire someone to do your spelling for you.

P.S. I am a computer Science teacher. Grammar aint my thing, but I will remember you and people like you when I walk out the door and leave my room to some liberal idiot.

You're right. I don't think we have the guts to even socially revolt now. People are too scared of loosing their houses and cars, and they are too self absorbed to realize that none of those material things are going to be worth squat if our country continues on this path.

I truly, deeply love the kids, and as bad as it is I can still occasionally reach a student and help him/her stay on track.

But I am almost to the end of my rope. Kids are getting so out of control and so dangerous that its almost impossible to reach them now. But the parent are the worst. They act so disgustingly that I can't stand the sight of them anymore. They drink and do drugs all night in front of their kids, put zero effort into raising their kids, and could give a lesser crap how they do in school, but the second little Tommy or Suzy gets into trouble the parents get drunk or high and come to school raising hell about it.

My sister teaches fourth graders and they are constantly coming to school and talking about the porn they watched at home the night before. Even little kids are out of hand now.

The only thing that has kept me going this long is the fact that we still have corporal punishment in our school. Even the worst kids can be partially controlled if they know they are going to get their butt paddled, but the paddle will be gone form our school district in the next couple of years. The sad thing is that the kids themselves have been polled repeatedly and the vast majority of them want to keep the paddle because they know it makes their school a safer place.

I am currently making plans to get out of the field, but it will take a couple of years. Maybe I can make it that long without getting shot or stabbed. I had to confront two very violent school shooter type seniors the other day. I was just relived to still be alive when the police got there. IF people really knew what goes on inside public schools they would never allow their kids to darken the door of one.

"...talking about the porn they watched at home the night before."

I had similar reactions grading FCAT tests for that same age group a few years ago. I wrote more extensively about that in a previous post. The problem is the parents, the public schools are just a reflection of that.

I remember being home from college for Christmas break in 1998, and seeing the neighbor's kid, 10-11 years old with a South Park T-shirt. If only you could pull children away from irresponsible parents as easily as you can pull them out of a school system.

Many of us admire & respect teachers! The kids need you, don't give up. Without teachers there would be no Doctors, or most any profession. Someday they will come back and thank you. I thank you, right now!

Thank you so much for your support. You'll never know how much teachers need to hear positive comments.

"but I will remember you and people like you when I walk out the door and leave my room to some liberal idiot."

I'm sorry that I so greatly offended you. Please refer to my post 18. But the vibes that I get from reading this reply are that you are a very angry, pent-up person that has problems with your career situation. I am no counselor, but I sense that maybe you should speak to one. Honestly, I mean no offense either in this or the previous post.

I have no anger or pent up emotions about my job. I am simply sick to death of the continuous drum beat of criticism from people who have absolutely no clue what its like to be in the trenches teaching every day in an environment where conservative teachers are now considered to be the enemy...Its like Cindy Sheehan criticizing a Navy seal because she doesn't think he has his boots are shiny enough.

I think that I do understand what you are feeling, and if I was working in an environment where the vast majority of co-workers and management were all or 95% hard-left liberals, I guarantee that I would not last 3 days. My first reply about your spelling was really on a much lighter level, and I am sorry.

Thanks.

I'm sure that I overreacted. I'm a little touchy about teaching issues these days.

Just a comment~
I live about 30 miles from there and I can honestly say that the majority of the problem is the fact that most of the area still think that if you don't talk about the "taboo" topics they never really happened. The problem that they are facing now is that a lot of people are facing the fact that this is happening and it is being reported. The publicity has encouraged kids to step forward and get help.

I'm just wondering where the boy's parents were for this to go on that long. Also, what might she have done to other kids, including her own...

of course you like to quote 25k per year, because you must be one of the VERY RARE teachers.
The AVERAGE teacher earns 46K. Not fantastic pay but not 26k per year either. And there are certainly some great benefits.
The most recent American Federation
of Teachers salary survey found that
the average teacher salary in the
2003-04 school year was $46,597.
25k is only for the first 3 years of a teacher's work in a substandard school district.
I suggest you move to a new school district.
unless perhaps you were quoting incorrect or
misleading information from your union. Perhaps you should update them on the correct amounts.
