Michael Zebuhr of Buckhannon, W.Va., was shot about 10 p.m. Saturday while returning to a car with his mother and two others from an Uptown restaurant. Zebuhr, a graduate student at Clemson University, was in Minneapolis to visit his sister with their mother. Police had made no arrests Monday, and officials said that Zebuhr was near death.

still no word from boy-mayor RT Rybak. I guess had the victom died from 2nd hand smoke the mayor would be concerned and have a press conference. I wonder if we'll ever get a police sketch of the perps?

Mayor Ryebread just doesn't know what the heck to do. Crime is up all over Minneapolis and Mayor Ryecracker is just helpless.

Meanwhile, on the right side of the river, crime's stats are stable or down a bit. Why? Well, we had a domestic thing a few doors up the street near my house in Saint Paul. Within 5 minutes, there were 9 cop cars there. Five minutes later, the guy was being frog-marched out of the house in cuffs. Five minutes after that, things were back to normal.

I can't blame the Mpls police chief for leaving for another job. There doesn't seem to be any leadership over there in "Big-time Minneapolis." "Good Old Saint Paul" is doing a little better.

RT Rybak is a %!&$ing loser!

This is the same RT Rybak who said last year that if you're not engaged in something criminal or disreputable, then you didn't need to worry about being shot.

I have noticed that none of the TV stations (that I've watched so far) have given a description of the perps. I hate to stereotype when a situation like this occurs - but I'd be willing to bet that the perps are black.

No offense intended to our black Freepers.

You police dept has a great legacy. It also helps that the last two mayors (Norm Coleman and Randy Kelly) were strong supporters of the police.

I wonder how long it will be before Jay Benanav's pet mayor (aka Chris Coleman) will turn his back on St Paul's police?

"

I heard this morning on KSTP that the perps were East Africans, probably Somalis. Two young guys around 20 or so. I guess the description is out there, now.

I dunno. I just moved here about 20 months ago. I'm catching up. Besides, I'm a Saint Paulite, not a Minneapolitan. I live on the RIGHT side of the river. [grin]

"Murderapolis" -- heard that one before. My daughter used to live in the Uptown area. It's gone downhill since then. Glad she's out of there.

I've heard "Minnewhipurass" a lot, too. I like Uptown, but I don't go there at night any more.

I worked in St. Paul for almost 16 years. Commuted up 35 E from the Burnsville exit everyday, snow, ice, whatever.

Sharon Sayles-Belton has really slipped out of the limelight after losing her re-election bid in '01.

Here's what Wikipedia says about Sayles-Belton:

It's a lot easier when you live right in town. But I work at home, so no commuting for me.

there's a 1:30 press conference. RT is said to be out of town on vacation. Meanwhile, the police chief is going to speak ,but he's leaving town for a new job shortly.

maybe Soupy Sayles-Belton would be an improvement.

The Somalis are legal immigrants. Most of the ones I've encountered have been OK people, trying to make their way here. As with all groups, though, there are some "yutes" who just don't get it.

We have a lot of West Africans in Saint Paul, too. Again, most I've met are working very hard to join the US.

An occasional burst of extreme violence during robberies is not unusual, authorities said. For example, Martin Pliego Ruiz was fatally shot in the head one night last May by one of two robbers who accosted him and his wife near 39th and Dupont Avenues N. They were walking home after a day's work at a McDonald's and willingly gave up their belongings, as did the group in Saturday's shooting.

"not unusual." see, it's all fine! remember, do as they say and give them your money. this will insure they have money to finish college.also, be sure to always give money to the bums, too. this will insure they change their ways and quit being parasitic inebriates and become productive citizens.(sarcasm)

"Authorities said that despite the violence of Saturday's robbery, few victims are shot if they oblige a robber's request."

Well then, it must have been that young man's fault.
