Do you want LEGAL immigration stopped too?
My Own Head | 4/3/006 | Me

The question has come up on different threads here - we know everyone who wants all ILLEGAL immigration stopped, but who is for stopping all LEGAL immigration as well? Whether it is just for a "short" time or permanently, let me know.

I'm not sure how you even compare the two.

One is a group of people who show open contempt for our laws, sovereignty, and our country.  Those who are here to grab as much as they can, through any means necessary, and send it back to their home country to which they maintain loyalty and citizenship.

The other is willing to respect our country and rules and wants to join the Greatest Nation on Earth, to share our freedoms, benefits, and responsibilities.

Your question is kind of like "You don't like being raped, but do you like making love to your spouse?"

I think legal immigration needs to be increased, with the process much more streamlined and expedited.

This country was founded on "give us your tired, your poor," etc.

I think we should be a lot more carefull about who we let in. After all, do we really need the taliban at Yale?

I have no problem with legal immigration. Our own Anna_Z became a U.S. citizen last year after spending many years in the red tape and paper maze.

I think all immigration should be stopped until officials can get control of who is in this country and deport the illegals

I agree on this, that makes our politicians responsible for seeing to it the border problem is resolved or admit they cannot protect us.

No.

In fact, if we get illegal immigration stopped, or at least greatly curtailed, we may be able to increase the level of legal immigration. It also could then be more evenly distributed among various nations.

Legal immigration should be streamlined so that those willing to work can be here legally, enrolled and engaged in the system, paying taxes and assimilating.

Legal immigration is part of what makes America great. The great thing about legal immigrants is that, for the most part, they want to be Americans, not just make money. Another great thing about legal immigration is that they are required to learn our history and culture, many knowing more about America, by the time they become citizens, than those born here. Legal immigrants should always be welcome in America and should receive their deserved place at the front of the line, taking the straight and narrow route, the most difficult route to become Americans. It shows that they want more than a paycheck because to become a citizen is a challenge and an undertaking that makes a person proud to be an American.

Agree, but I would get rid of bogus programs like the "diversity immigration lottery" which does nothing to select the quality of immigrants we get. A point system like most other rational countries in the world use would be far better than drawing from a pool of favored countries. For example, from an Allied country +8 points; from a hostile country -8 points; math professor +9 points; political activist -20 points; service in the U.S. miltary +25 points, etc.

I want to increase legal immigrant levels, AFTER we throw out the illegals. There should be room for doubling the legal immigrants with the illegals out of the way.

We should be able to handle a million new people a year, properly registered and tracked.

I hope not. We are barely at the replacement rate right now. I suspect we do our best to birth control ourselves out of existance. Just looking at Russia and Europe shows that.

This country was founded on "give us your tired, your poor," etc.

That little socialist poem came over 100 years after the founding of this nation. Let's deal with the tired and poor already here before we let any more in.

Depends on what kind of legal immigrants one is talking about. A foreign-born professor at, say, Princeton or an equally foreign-born organized crime figure? And if it is easy enough to choose between these two poles, then there are intermediate [as for an immigrant's desirability] situations.

"This country was founded on "give us your tired, your poor," etc."

This certainly is not what our country was founded on. This is what a foreign government wanted us to do and put it on a statue it gave to us. It has virtually nothing to do with the founding of our Country which was founded, by and large, by non-poor, non-tired, educated patriots.

Beautiful women should be allowed entry at all times followed by instant citizenship. Also baseball players, NFL capable athletes etc.

security profiling of all candidates for legal entry makes perfect sense. then... enforce assimilation.

1. no "dual language/polylingual" ATMs, no non-english ballots, no bilingual public education, no tax-funded translators, etc... full English immersion: swim, or sink.

2. break the law, be expelled. any law at all. expelled permanently. including zoning ordinances, housing regulations, noise odinances, LITTERING... full lawful requirement: behave, or go home.

etc...

actually, that isn't even on the statue - it is from an ode to that statue written by a soft-hearted fool.
