Movie-maker OLIVER STONE has blasted media groups who "slander" celebrities for their political comments - because intelligent stars have every right to question their leaders. The Vietnam veteran, who is a fierce opponent of the US leadership, is appalled every time a celebrity is rudely mocked for making his or her thoughts about PRESIDENT GEORGE W BUSH and the war in Iraq public, and he urges journalists to be more supportive. The NATURAL BORN KILLERS director says, "We're Hollywood wackos and all that stuff, left-wing... (It's) an easy and facile dismissal. "I'm still a citizen, I've served my country as a veteran, I've had many jobs before the film business. I know something of life, having lived to this age. "We have a right to speak and every time we speak: 'You're an actor, a showbusiness director,' we're making it up! "This is not a way of dealing with people. This is slander."
Movie-maker OLIVER STONE
Has-been looser.
Hes so bad hes getting ZBooring.
If they wouldn't act like such fools we would pay them more mind.
They are public figures. They have opinions. They express them. We express back. Get over it, Stone.
Oliver Stone is a veteran...who knew? (sarcasm)
They're just upset because the MSM cannot define and hoodwink anymore.
Oliver Stone?
I thought that little Vietnamese guy blew
him apart in "Platoon."
Gee Oliver, I would slander you, but I don't think you are worth it.
Oliver, truth is an absolute defense against slander charges.
If a famous person uses that fame to speak out on politics then they deserve political scrutiny..thats only fair.
We have a rule at work that we never discuss sex, religion or politics with customers...and I'd be very upset if my political opinions effected my job.
But if chose to start using my job to promote my politics then it would be fair to consider that as part of my job performance.
My parents taught me the same thing and called it "polite conversation".
" ... because intelligent stars have every right to question their leaders."
And by the same token, we have the same right to question the "intelligence" of stars :)
Why isn't this guy in jail? Wasn't he busted with drugs a few months ago?
Man, I'll tell y'all up front, it took me quite a while to lay off the guffaws when I read about those intelligent stars. You know, sometimes I even think they believe what these people tell them to do, too!
After regaining my composure, I was inevitably forced to think just who exactly has attacked their right to express themselves. Last I checked, the rhetoric was still flowing free and easy out of la-la-land there on the Left Coast. On the other hand, I guess this is a step up from the whining about "questioning their patriotism."
From 1967 to 1968, Stone would return to Vietnam this time as a soldier - he served fifteen months in the 25th Infantry Division. He was awarded the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart for his service in the war.
Just exactly how do you serve your country as a veteran? By re-upping?
Oliver Stone makes such lousy movies, I would not doubt the Arabs are the only ones who will fund them. Remember folks, Hollywood does not care if a movie is good or bad, they only care if somebody will put up the money to make it.
because intelligent stars have every right
Intelligent stars. THERE'S an oxymoron.
