Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise have welcomed their first child together, two inside sources have told PEOPLE.
No other details are immediately available.
In late October, barely six months into their romance, an ecstatic Cruise and Holmes revealed that they were expectant parents.
Cruise, 43, and Holmes, 27, had made no secret of their desire to start a family together: When asked by PEOPLE last June if they were planning to have children, Holmes smiled and said simply, "Yes."
Friends of the Toledo, Ohio-bred Holmes called her perfectly suited to her upcoming role. "She almost seems born for motherhood," said Oliver Hudson, actress Kate Hudson's brother and an old pal who costarred with Holmes in Dawson's Creek. "She's a nurturer. She's got mother qualities a lot of girls her age don't have."
Cruise, meanwhile, is "a great dad already," according to his pal, actress Leah Remini. He has two children from his marriage to Nicole Kidman: Isabella, 13, and Connor, 11, whom Cruise and Kidman adopted as infants. Remini told PEOPLE that both kids are "so cool
You can sit and talk to them about life."
CREDIT: SETH BROWARNIK / WIREIMAGEAs for marriage, Cruise and Holmes plan to tie the knot soon, Cruise said on the German TV program Wetten, dass..? on April 1. "In summer we want to get married. I won't let this woman get away."
Immediately ahead for the new dad: the May 5 release of Mission: Impossible 3. Holmes stars in the recently released satirical film about Washington politics, Thank You for Smoking.

No kidding. I wonder how she did through that, "no noise during childbirth" thing. Poor girl. Dumb for getting together with him, but I still have sympathy for her.

Channel surfing a few minutes ago, I landed on CNN. Cafferty (a bigtime lib) was wondering if it was too soon to file a sympathy card to the newborn child. Hilarious...even libs think Tom Cruise is Nucking Futs.

Another Scientologist, btw. Apparently Scientology holds great appeal for actors, and this says nothing flattering about actors.

This topic belongs in New/Activism...psychotherapy alert.
Poor Tom...he is so clearly bipolar and all he needs is a little mineral additive (lithium). Which is why it is so ironic that, of all people, he would rant about the evils of therapeutic drugs.

Cruise and his sister publicist were reported to have tried to push the baby back inside in order to re-schedule the birth to coincide with the release of MI3.
"Walking with children is always difficult," Cruise said when asked about the incident. "They have problems with scheduling."

Katie Holmes gives birth
From correspondents in Los Angeles
April 19, 2006
HOLLYWOOD superstar Tom Cruise's fiancee Katie Holmes has given birth to the couple's first child, People magazine said today.
The baby, named Suri, weighed 3.4kg and measured 50.8cm, Cruise spokesman Arnold Robinson said to the Associated Press.
Cruise's publicist Paul Bloch could not immediately be reached for comment on the report, but People quoted two "inside sources" as confirming the new arrival.
No other details, including the baby's gender or its date of arrival were immediately available, said People, which is regularly privy to celebrity scoops related to births, marriages and divorces.
The child would be a third for Mission Impossible star Cruise, 43, who has two adopted children with his ex-wife, Australian Oscar-winner Nicole Kidman.
It was the first baby for 27-year-old Holmes.
The Cruise-Holmes baby has been eagerly anticipated by the world's media since they announced they were expecting barely six months after they began dating.
The couple, dubbed "TomKat" by the entertainment press a combination of the first syllable of each of their first names began dating about a year ago.
They sparked a media frenzy when they announced in June they were planning to marry and then crowned the excitement in October with their baby announcement.

Ah, here we go. A girl.
Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes have baby girl
SANDY COHEN
Associated Press
LOS ANGELES - The Tomkitten has arrived.
Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes, the high-profile pair dubbed "TomKat" by the media, had a baby girl Tuesday, said Cruise spokesman Arnold Robinson.
The baby, named Suri, weighed 7 pounds, 7 ounces and measured 20 inches long, he said.
"Both mother and daughter are doing well," Robinson said in a prepared statement.
The name Suri has its origins in Hebrew, meaning "princess," or in Persian, meaning "red rose," the statement said.
The baby was born in Los Angeles but the exact location was not disclosed.
It's the first child for Holmes, 27, and the first biological offspring for Cruise, 43. Cruise has a daughter and son from his marriage to Nicole Kidman.
Details surrounding the birth, which was planned under the tenets of the Church of Scientology as a silent procedure, weren't disclosed.

Mum's the Word for Tom's Katie
by Joal Ryan

Katie Holmes can break out the noisemakers: She and Tom Cruise are parents.
Cruise and Holmes "joyously welcomed" a baby girl, named Suri, on Tuesday, a statement from the couple's publicist said. Mother and daughter are said to be "doing well." Father is presumably couch-hopping happy.
Suri, the statement explained, means "princess" in Hebrew and "red rose" in Persian. The girl weighed in at 7 pounds, 7 ounces, and registered 20 inches in length.
