There used to be one in Nantucket Sound, but Kennedy,Kerry and Cronkite had it moved.

It hurt the local property values, you see.

YOU are unlikely to win the National Geography Bee. (But you probably knew that.)

RE: Picture #1
Amazing that the ISS was in the right place at the right time. It looks like it just happened.
The main cloud is about the same size as the base.

I'd bet pix #2 was taken on the next orbit.

Pix #2 is really remarkable, weather wise.

Winds are coming from roughly 040 degrees (volcano cloud movement).
You can see the clouds moving around the mountains, causing a lee side clear area.

I always enjoy this thread. I share the link with my daughter, who will start teaching science this fall (she has a geology degree, but got it when there were no jobs.)

The main link was the Montserrat Volcano Observatory, http://www.mvo.ms/. It wasn't working yesterday and it is now, and they have a picture on the home page of the dome collapse. It was a pretty severe event, and emissions (noxious gases) affected some of the inhabited areas.
