Vanity: Need .44 Revolver links

Hey - a quick vanity question here. A friend is looking for recommendations on a carry pistol while biking up in the Colorado mountains. I am recommending a shrouded hammer, short-barrelled .44 for him. Unfortunately I am having trouble finding a shrouded hammer, short barrelled 44. Anyone have a suggestion?

I'm recommending the Ruger SP series in .357 or the Charter Arms. The Charter Arms though is unshrouded.

A friend is looking for recommendations on a carry pistol while biking up in the Colorado mountains. Well, S&W makes a short-barrel .44 mountain gun, but I think since you don't get grizzlies in Colorado, a .357 should suffice - there are compact 5-round .357s, and you can also shoot .38 specials out of it as well for practice.
I guess is he more concerned about 4-legged varmints or 2-legged ones?

I may be mistaken, but I don't believe anyone makes a shrouded-hammer revolver in .44 caliber.

Shrouded hammer nullifies SA capability, not a good idea on a large caliber handgun. OK for a BUG, like a .38 snub.
Go with a 4" .44MAG, with a standard profile barrel, like the SW 629 Mountain Gun or an equivalent Ruger/Taurus.

Anyone have any user feedback on the Springfield Armory XD 45ACP? It's gotten rave reviews, but my local gun shop rep says they have a reputation for blowing up and are made by kids in Croatia. What gives?

Go to Smith&Wesson's site.Also,Charter Arms.They make a short-barreled .44Mag called"The Bulldog"."The Son of Sam"swore by it!
