A MELBOURNE man has been jailed for three months for bashing his partner's dog. Ibrahim Moussa, 25, of Widford Street, Glenroy, was sentenced in the Broadmeadows Magistrates Court last week to a total of three years' jail over a range of offences including burglary, theft and breach of an intervention order.
The three years included two three-month sentences for beating a dog and causing unnecessary pain to the animal, to be served concurrently.
The animal cruelty charges relate to incidents in July and August last year involving Zarah, a pit bull-cross puppy that was four months old when the RSPCA removed it from Moussa's house.
RSPCA inspector Sarah Eskins said she attended the man's Pascoe Vale home and said the dog would shake violently and urinate any time Moussa went near it.
"Mr Moussa admitted to hitting the pup and soaking her under the tap when she did wrong, however one neighbour reported seeing Mr Moussa beat the dog with a metal pole," Ms Eskins said.
The puppy was removed from the house and taken to the RSPCA's headquarters in Burwood East in August last year, where a vet found she had a fractured front right ulna.
Magistrate Ross Betts also convicted Moussa on dozens of other charges including burglary, theft, breach of an intervention order, obtaining property by deception and going equipped to steal.
He was set a minimum non-parole period of 18 months, less 113 days already served in custody while on remand.

Anybody that bashes puppage has to go through me!!
What?
Nevermind.
Seriously, animal abusers are the lowest of the low. Dogs show unconditional love that everyone should experience.
Yeah, reporters don't get all that involved in reality, do they.
Unfortunately, reporters don't write the headlines. That being said, what was a Muslim doing with a dog to begin with?
My neighbors experience that every day. Now if they would just keep their dogs from crapping in my backyard...
