Reagan was president of the United States of America from 1981 until 1989. He was the 40th person to serve as president. He died June 5, 2004 in Los Angeles. He was 93-years-old.

Reagan was the oldest person to serve as president. He was 69 when he took office. Reagan was elected to a four-year term in 1980. He defeated Jimmy Carter in that election. Carter was seeking a second term as president.

Reagan won re-election in 1984. He defeated Walter Mondale for a second term. Carter and Mondale were Democrats. Reagan was a Republican. He was elected governor of California in 1966 and 1970. He made us all chuckle when in presidential debates when questioned about the age of a president & responded he did NOT want to make the youth of his opponent an issue in the campaign.

Before entering politics, Reagan was a movie actor. He also served as president of the actors' union.

As the years passed, Reagan became more conservative. He switched from the Democratic Party to the Republican Party in 1962.

Reagan was often called "the Great Communicator." Even people who did not like Reagan agreed that he was good at giving speeches. The president also was said to have a good sense of humor.

Reagan said the nation needed to be ready to fight the Soviet Union and is considered influential in the break apart of the Union. The Soviet Union was a group of nations in Eastern Europe and Asia. Russia was the most powerful of the countries in the Soviet Union.

Reagan's health gradually grew worse in the last 10 years of his life.. He told the world in 1994 that he was suffering from Alzheimer's disease. Reagan’s wife, Nancy, spoke for him after his condition worsened. Reagan was not seen in public in recent years.

Nancy Reagan said in May of 2004 that Alzheimer's had taken her husband "to a distant place where I can no longer reach him." Reagan died of pneumonia. But the lung condition was a complication of Alzheimer's Disease.

Reagan was given a State funeral that was 10 years in the planning. Thousands filed past his coffin in California and in Washington, D.C. His funeral was attended by heads of State and former heads of State, including Margaret Thatcher, former Prime Minister of Great Britain.

Reagan was laid to rest in Simi Valley, California.

OMG.. 8 hours of yard work??? and you are still able to see, walk, etc?

Welcome dear friend. You have others in "your shoes" here. Most have not arrived yet.

I did a few hours in yard. My friend & FReeper Wheelbarrow came & helped me for a few hours. Then we did a "doggie" walk & I took him out for Mexican.

I just had one. sometimes I wish I could do it again.. but alas cannot. He is a good kid. Had a lot of negative baggage from we, his parents.

I had a friend (a very funny one) that used to say..

The best way to raise kids.

When they are 11.. put them in a hole in ground. give them food etc, exercise. Let them out when they are 21/

Bev, there are all ages & backgrounds here. We are here to be friends & help each other. One thing I have learned that I can learn a lot when I dont expect it..

good folks here. I come & go. I should be here a lot this weekend (as I am hostess) but will probably not.

There are several women (and a few guys) our age.

The raven was here last weekend & a few others you know.

I am having a really tough few "oliver" days lately... 6 months almost. too many tears still. too empty of a heart still.

I used to hate yard work, but figure it is what is keeping me "young". Tomorrow, I am going to vacuum the spiders (ick) off my deck area and wash the windows and glass panels. Then...hopefully, the weather will stay nice so I can paint the decks with the Wolmanite water proofing. I was lucky today...stayed overcast and in the high 50's all day....perfect for mowing, berry vine whacking, hedge trimming, etc.

I think she was also upset to find out that I DO know who Ann Coulter is, that I like her, and that I DO support her standing up to the "jersey girls".

But like most liberals, she is NOT aware of the way that Christians and conservatives in this world do NOT have much "freedom of speech", that we can get smeared and impugned by the Drive-by media and liberals like Soros, the jersey girls, Dixie chicks and Micahel Moore, but we are NOT supposed to respond!!

(((dolly))) Yes, we will always remember the Oliver pups and Rusty cats that come into our lives and then leave all too soon. My Oscar is now 15 years old and I know I am not going to have him much longer. He is showing signs of aging but, although blind, he gets around quite well.

I positively LOVE yard work.. flowers, veggies, weeding, lawn care.. could have an atrocious house that you cant walk in.. (Opps.. I do).. and still avoid it to go outside & do the dirt/yard stuff.

I did the ATRW junk garden.. fun. ugly but fun.

BTW.. my friend Wheelbarrow is 10 years older than you & will no doubt show up soon (if he doesn't get to his single dance)

I haven't lost any animals yet, but both of mine are getting up there in years( dog is 10, cat is 14.)

Cali is the same Bev. born in 1988.. still my sweetheart & rules the house (over dogs too)

I had a long, long crying session today at O's grave.. I have two wonderful pooches now.

but just like men.. I think sometimes there is one special person/pet who will always hold the special place.

It takes our growth to let other people/pets step in along the way to NOT REPLACE but to be part of the "new" life

Michael Medved had a wonderful segment on Anne C today. I like him & her. Yes, she is a gutsy, opinionated, strong woman, But she is smart & warm.. what more can we ask for?
