To me, a RINO (or a DINO) is someone who'd be just as content in the other party. That definition has the merit of matching the meaning of the generic words in the dictionary, but lacks merit, because it does not comport with how the terms are used in practice. In practice, they mean congresspersons who stray from the party line materially more than the median of their party do.

PS. And IMHO McCain is out for only one thing, which is McCain. The party label is just a technical formality.
