It started with a dare.
When it ended early this morning, a naked man was bruised and a man who claimed he was a drill sergeant was under arrest for shooting a gun toward the naked man.
"Just when you thought you had heard everything,'' Ann Arbor Detective Sgt. Jim Stephenson said.
An Ann Arbor couple said they were inside their apartment in the 1500 block of Pauline Boulevard discussing marriage just after midnight. The woman said she wasn't sure if she was ready, and her boyfriend responded that taking risks is an important part of life, police reports said.
To prove his point, the boyfriend hopped out of the first-floor window on a dare and streaked naked across the street, police said. But before he could cross back to the residence, he noticed a couple walking down the sidewalk, so he hid in the bushes to avoid them, reports said.
The 28-year-old Ann Arbor man who happened to be walking his friend home noticed the bushes rustling and feet underneath, so he pulled out his gun and ordered the naked man out, reports said. The naked man ran, and the chase was on.
The man with the gun, who claimed he was an Army drill sergeant, repeatedly ordered the naked man to the ground as he chased after him, threatening to shoot him, reports said. The gunman then fired off a round, and the naked man hit the ground, causing minor injuries, reports said.
A nearby resident called police to report a naked man being chased by a man with a gun, reports said.
Officers soon arrived and arrested the gunman. He does not appear to be in the Army and does not have a permit to carry his .40-caliber handgun, police said. He was lodged at the county jail on charges of aggravated assault and carrying a concealed weapon.
The naked man was treated for minor injuries, but was not arrested.
It's also not known whether the couple plans to marry.

Unless, of course, it's a triple-dog-dare. Then there's really no alternative.

No justification to open fire. What deadly threat is posed by a fleeing, nude man? None.

Reminds me of an old Reader's Digest anecdote about a military man who was caught naked chasing a girl around a hotel hallway. He was up on charges for not being in uniform at all times in public.
Until it was noted that the uniform code contains an exception for wearing the appropriate apparel when one is engaged in a sporting activity.

Hard to say who was more stupid, the streaker courting major embarassment, or the fool with no permit for concealed carry waving it around for all to see, and then cranking off a round to make sure everyone knew.

Lemme give ya a tip fella: try a romantic dinner at sunset after spending the day with her family. You won't get arrested, she'll probably say yes and you get engagement sex.

What deadly threat is posed by a fleeing, nude man? There is no imminent threat. I would be worried about letting a guy who hides naked in the bushes get away, however. Some poor girl or child might end up dead in a ravine as a result.

The sad part is that the naked guy becomes the 'victim' and the guy with the gun (possibly reckless discharge aside) ends up charged with a crime, while the guy who was not 'concealing his weapon' walks.
