The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

By the way, Phoenix in summer is brutal, dry heat or not.

I have a friend that lives in Yuma and she reports triple teen digits all the time. Having lived in Southern California the first 30 years of my life and 17 years in the south I think I prefer the dryer heat instead of the humidity. Yeah, for those that did the math, I am 47.

Welcome to Alabama! I understand that Decatur has a large Tennessee Walking Horse Show every year. I'm sure people there could help you with info.

Yes, there is nice riding here. I'm also thinking that many of our state parks have good riding trails.

I don't know any more about it. I suggested to her that she track down those profs in the month we have left in Auburn. It couldn't hurt.

And yes, it is as far away as you can get; if we went any farther we'd be coming home again. But we think the work we do is very important and offsets the inconvenience of being away from the state.

Actually it is the Racking Horse Celebration that is in Decatur (Priceville) It is in September I believe, is that right Frog? The Tennessee Walking Horse Celebration is in Shelbyville, TN, not to far north into TN. Both are great to attend.

"I got 30 minutes from the house and it stopped."

That's a heartbreaker!! I didn't know it was as dry in Alabama as it is here. Most counties have a burn ban right now and my kids are so disappointed. They go to my inlaws farm in Abilene every 4th of July to shoot off fireworks. It's against the law to even sell them there now.

I'm not far enough out of town for fireworks to be legal where I live.

I remember one particularly brutal year in Arizona where the news media were showing frying eggs on the sidewalk.

Weeell, they WOULD be good riding trails, but you can't ride horses in Alabama State Parks, that I know of, and you can only ride horses on designated horse trails in the National Forests (like Bankhead and Talladega NF). We aren't exactly the most horse-friendly state I've ever heard of. :o(

There's quite a few privately owned horse camps around here though.

Well, it sounds like it's about time you tried it then. You don't know what you're missing. What kinda horse are you looking for, age and skills-wise and all that?

Well good, we always like new voices. We like pictures too and none of us are too bashful about posting them, especially of our horses. Do you have horses or just like them?

Registered Quarter Horse, preferably with Poco Bueno and/or Two Eyed Jack bloodlines, 4 to 8 years old, 14.2 to 15 hands, well muscled, good solid hoofs, blue roan or buckskin would be nice, bomb proof and ready to ride.

I feel like banging my head against the computer. It's like I'm in English 101 again, and no one should have to go thru that twice. I just got 28 more defiencies regarding that freaking catalog. Almost all of then start with "rephrase paragraph..... I wish I had went into raising horses or something. I wouldn't have made any money but it's got to have been more fun.
