Have a great day at the beach house!
He's a hoot. He's first generation off the boat from Italy. When they came to the country, his mom didn't speak a word of English. He has amazing stories about the Depression and just amazing life stories in general. I want to start getting them down on paper, and that won't be hard because he sure loves to tell them.
You are doing a wonderful thing. I know it requires a lot of changes with families sometimes but I believe Seniors are a blessing from God and should be enjoyed . I wish I had asked my grandmother more questions, than I did. As you probably can tell, I have a list of stuff I want to do but take my good ole time getting there. I have an old quilt of hers that I have been working on for several years. I'm writing a book to go with stories on the quilt for future generations. The writing is easy. The quilt is a project.
Good morning:)
We had a nice little line of rain move thru early this morning. Now clear skies and sun. Looks to be a pretty day. Not riding today tho, Celia and I did 3 hours yesterday, great ride, today we are going to be bums:)
cj, I'm glad to hear that Deuces ordeal is almost over, and that the procedures are all going well. It will be interesting to see pictures (I guess:).
Beaker: Hang in there, sounds like things are straightening out. Best of all you'll be by horses:)
Hair: Have fun at the beach:)

That's great news about Deuce, and sounding better all the time!
Really, my mothers mom and all her family were first generation off the boat from Italy:). Her grandfather was still alive and I remember him....he never learned English, maybe a little, but not enough that my brother and I could talk to him.

I interviewed my Grandma over several days once, typing right into the computer because it was easier for me and she kindof marveled at that... But I got her to tell all the stories we wanted to save, about her growing up, her meeting my grandpa, and lots of stories about living when and where she did. It made a nice story I put together with other family history bits we had and gave to everyone for Christmas one year, in a three ring binder so they could add more of their own to it.
You might want to record them too. That way you'll always have him to listen to and pass along those memories first hand to your children.
What a great idea.

It was neat, and made a good present, the kind of present that lasts and will be found by someone someday in some old person's 'stuff' - I did the same with my mom, before she died, though that one I've so far kept to myself, it isn't really done, there's more stories about my own growing up that should be added to that. But together with some of the diaries and journals we had from my grandma's parents and grandparents coming over from Norway, it is a pretty good history of 'us'.
I sort of did the same thing one year for my dad.
When my mother died, dad was going to trash all the old old pictures they had, pictures of their childhoods. I took them with the promise he would never see them hanging on some resturant wall for decoration:).
Anyway one year I went thru them and made a scrap book of "This is Your Life" for him, and gave it to him as a Christmas present. It was just pictures and newsclipping he was in, and some very old birthday/christmas/valentine cards he'd gotten as a child from people, (they were really cool too:). It was fun to do, but I never thought to add stories of his life to it.

I've wanted to go back to ours and add pictures. Having the ability to scan all the pictures would have made it a better product today than what I was able to make 15 years ago.
I've never thought you were complaining. And I can tell the difference :~)
I've been thinking about digitizing my family history - stories, genealogical charts, historic photos, etc. - and putting it on CD or DVD for archiving and distribution.
What road is that? BTW, I noticed in our news letter they were asking for volunteers to work at Capital Forest this winter, maybe we will meet you some time.
My parents live down at Ocean Park, right on Willipa Bay, there are lots of these signs down there too, except the closest hill is about 10 miles away, good if you have enough warning.
I read in another thread, sorry still getting used to this one that you have/had Arabs? I have one of my daughters at home, she used to show it and now he is kind of pasture art, laminitis recovering. His father was from Egyptian Shadow and think he had a famous grandfather but can't recall the name. Anyway, I have a breed stock paint gelding now but am thinking about getting a mule, my friend has one that is half Percheron, they used to breed them a lot in Missouri. They are truly amazing animals. Does anyone in this club/thread have mules?
Thank you Beaker, I didn't see this until this morning. I see there are 10 threads here but not sure how to navigate around here too well.
Just wanted to say thanks for the welcome!!
Managed to get a pic of Little B's sister this morning. She was checking out the morning dew on the grass. Like her brother she has some verbal skills too.
