Gretchen Wilson and Josh Gracin were among the performers appearing Monday night (June 19) in Washington at a fundraiser that generated $27 million to be used by Republican candidates in the November elections. President Bush provided a speech for more than 5,000 supporters attending the President's Dinner at the Washington Convention Center. The event raised money for the National Republican Congressional Committee and the National Republican Senatorial Committee.

Hey, Natalie Maines.
*points at Gretchen Wilson*
There's a REAL Dixie chick for ya.
Not really a Dixie chick; she's from Illinois, slightly north of the Mason-Dixon line. But hey, what the hell, she makes Natalie Maines look like a sow!
Get out. She's from Illinois?!? Wow. Well, I did always hear that southern Illinois was a heck of a lot more Southern than half the South nowadays...
Recently saw Gretchen in concert. Amazing. She sang Heart's "Barracuda" near the end of the show and brought the house down.
She's in my area in September....I'm goin'
Hell Yeah....even when not All Jacked Up
Bump for former Camp Pendleton Marine Josh Gracin.
the album title is apt for this event
Hey don't insult the sows.
Sorry, I don't know WHAT I was thinking there....
Jonny, Emily and mystery, pinging you to news that Gretchen Wilson and Josh Gracin performed at the huge Republican fundraising gala in DC the other day. You might want to spread the word to other American Idol fans.
Hey Chicks, put that in your 5 disc changer & play it.
Thanks for the ping! :) Wow, I'm so happy for Josh. He was one of my favorites that year. He's doing so well.
Josh is one of my favorites too. He's doing extremely well. In fact, he's really the only former AI contestant (other than winners and runners up) who has gone on to a successful recording career.
The part of that that I like most is that Simon never liked Josh much. :) Now he's eating a little crow. :)
Exactly. Josh finished his commitment to the Marines, got his honorable discharged, then moved his family to Nashville. He's succeeded the old-fashioned way, through hard work, and the AI machine never helped him a bit (other than his appearing on the show).
I saw her in concert a few weeks ago, too. She completely rocked on "Barracuda!" Although, I'm a huge Heart fan, so I love that song anyway. Not many people can do as well as Ann Wilson, but she was awesome.
Didn't he spend some time in Iraq? Bless him. He deserves the success.
Emily, although I don't know if Josh went to Iraq, I know for certain he has entertained troops on bases here in the U.S. Kelly Clarkson went to Iraq to entertain our troops there. If Josh hasn't gone, I'm sure he will when the opportunity presents itself.
I think he did go.... seems to me his unit was called up when he was on AI and they released him until his time on the show was over. He went like 2 weeks after he was voted off. He didn't get to go on the tour either.
I think. :)
They're professionals. They sing for money.
Well, when she performs at a Democrat function and trashes Republicans the way a lot of celebs do, I'll get disappointed and cynical like you....
Your taking of my comments as cynical is ill founded. I made an observation that performers go where they are paid to perform.
One should not be surprised if each of them might perform for a group of Democrats in the future. It is what they do in their respective careers.
I take it as cynical because you won't see the Dixie Chicks doing a Republican fundraiser, regardless of the pay. Have a nice day :-)
You would see them if they were paid enough. Of course it would be RINOs who would hire them.
