Canadian women close to a life without menstruation

Life without monthly periods has always been one of the few things women look forward to as they grow old — but thanks to a new birth control pill, Canadian women of all ages may soon be able to stop menstruating.

I don't think this is a good thing. Long term use from a young age couldn't be healthy. (and some bad jokes no doubt)

I never took the pill and I would never take anything that manipulates my hormones on a daily basis.

Well Canada, you are about to be out reproduced by immigrants who do not use birth control bills. At least you will have few children to worry about when the shite hits the fan.

And the flower of Canadian Womenhood will be old crones before they are 30.

I find it difficult to believe that maple syrup is not somehow involved.

Thats how I feel too- I dont' want a birth control method that stops periods altogether. it's just too unnatural.

Same topic from last month. Apparently some are already doing this, by not following the directions on current meds:

What a novel approach - instead of plugging the leak once a month, they cut the supply off at the source!! ;)

I think G-d meant for the uterus to be purged every 28 days. It can't be a good thing to go for extended periods of time w/out menstruation. Although it would be wonderfully convenient.

Due to a medical condition (endometriosis), and secondary infertility, my periods were useless to me. Both medically, and psychologically. Every month, I would first endure to depression of knowing, one more month had gone by without getting pregnant, and one more month of unbearable pain. My doctor put me on depoprovera 10 years ago.

My husband and I came to the point where we decided that God had blessed us with one healthy child, and that might be the only child we would ever have. After a few months of spotting, I have now gone more than 10 years with only one period every year and a half or so. Those "periods" are more like light spotting for a day or so. For my mental and physical health, it was a miracle. Many marriages are strained to almost a breaking point due to infertility, but I was able to sidestep that. We have a wonderful marriage, a beautiful 16 year old son, and I thank menstrual suppression for that.

It is not for everyone, and there are some side effects, but for me it's the answer. Menstrual suppression has been going on for years, this is just a new method of achieving that.

If I was in your predicament I would do the same. I was speaking about a healthy woman using daily hormones for convenience sake.

I can't even imagine that. My husband and I wanted as many children as God provided for us (his plan must have been one), but after years of infertility, and two miscarriages, I can't image life without it. The side effects are not worth the freedom of the "monthly curse", if that is the only goal IMO. I also wonder what long term effects this will cause. As I said, for me, it's worth it, but this is by no means an answer for all.

My story closely parallels yours, codercpc.

Now my 16 year old daughter is suffering from endo and on meds to only allow 4 menses per year, thus reducing the growth of endo and the unimaginable pain.

Are you a member of the Endometriosis Association?
