Man's Comment On Check Could Land Him In Jail
KIRO 7 TV ^ | Jun. 27, 2006 | Associated Press

BERKLEY, Mich. -- The parking fine was $10. But the comment Robert Militzer added to the check could land him in jail for 30 days.

The computer programmer from Allen Park got the ticket May 29. When Militzer wrote the check to Berkley District Court, he scribbled on the memo line, "BULL (expletive) MONEY GRAB."

That got Militzer an in-person court appearance -- on a contempt of court charge. He's scheduled to go before a judge Wednesday, accompanied by an American Civil Liberties Union attorney who will argue Militzer's remark is protected by the First Amendment.

Just imagine how benevolent our civil servants will become if the liberals ever manage to get their dreams of gun control implemented.

They are venting anger.

And sometimes they are angry a BS ripoff con run by a state that put 25 MPH speed limits on 6-lane limited access road where traffic routinely flows 45 MPH, with police cars going along at the same speed. Every now and again they randomly bump off a citizen because they need the money. If traffic actually slowed down to 25 MPH they would have gridlock.

That is how it works here in our nations capital.

Richard Eshman, Berkley's public safety director...

I am sorry, but his royal supreme excellence, his highness, Richard Eshman this pantload of pompousity, hisself is not a member of the judiciary, but an insignificant piece of a government bureaucrat. However offended he is, contempt of him is not contempt of court.

Did it involve recursion?

LOL, I told them what they could sexually do to themselves. Starting with the first letter "F" of the first word of the phrase I sent them, I instead wrote a "G", and every subsequent letter in the phrase was one letter off.

"Did you really think we want those laws observed?" said Dr. Ferris. "We want them to be broken. You'd better get it straight that it's not a bunch of boy scouts you're up against... We're after power and we mean it... There's no way to rule innocent men. The only power any government has is the power to crack down on criminals. Well, when there aren't enough criminals one makes them. One declares so many things to be a crime that it becomes impossible for men to live without breaking laws. Who wants a nation of law-abiding citizens? What's there in that for anyone? But just pass the kind of laws that can neither be observed nor enforced or objectively interpreted – and you create a nation of law-breakers – and then you cash in on guilt. Now that's the system, Mr. Reardon, that's the game, and once you understand it, you'll be much easier to deal with." ('Atlas Shrugged' 1957)

It's time to resurrect the concept of tarring and feathering government officials who grossly misuse the powers we the People have given them.

"the ACLU guy/gal knows what the hell he/she is doing "

Thank you so much. It's wonderful to find someone who said this sentence properly. Most people would have said "this ACLU guy knows what the hell they're doing." Mixing singular and plural drives me nuts. But then I'm an editor, among other things. Anyway, thanks.

Oh how I miss the good old United States of America where we were free

Same here. I'm disgusted by what I read and see anymore. This isn't the country I grew up in.

"Back in the good old United States, using profane or obscene language in public got you jail time."

True, and that (along with the possibility of getting an anonymous arse-kicking) helped instill a certain quality of mutual respect, which is oft missing today.

And, BTW, I'm not saying I disagree with Mr. Militzer's assessment nor that I think he should be caned for it. The courts readily protect such "speech" as long as it's not applied to THEM - for that duplicity, they justly deserve every word of it.

Update (I can only post the link)

In short, the guy apologized, wrote a new check and the contempt charge was dismissed.

Yup.

Half the freakin charges they get folks for are there for only one reason:

To pad somebodies pockets!

And they already have the power to tax, but that's not enough, they have to turn the rest of us into ne'er do wells and scoundrels.

Something ain't right!
