Or one could get the latest SUSE Enterprise Desktop with XGL ...what a WOW...running it right now .

NO, but it has the desktop cube and it will allow browsing the World Wide Web without doing all the crap required with Windows....

Xandros, and Linspire are Linux varianta that try to get close to Windows File friendliness.....don't know that they claim they can run all windows software, but they do have stuff.

As far as I know Windows Vista has nothing like the XGL 3 D effects that SUSE gives...you do need a video card for the 3D effects...I have a Nvidia 6200 Turbo in a PCIE slot and an AMD X2 3800+. ...

I'm a newbie for sure. I like to tinker around, so I have loaded the Gentoo build on an older machine and I'm just now getting started. So far, I like what I see.

Have you looked at some of the slackware variants....SLAX has a live CD ...
