LOS ANGELES Johnny Depp has the write stuff when it comes to signing autographs while Cameron Diaz is the worst, according to a new list from Autograph Collector magazine.
Depp, followed by George Clooney, topped the magazine's 14th annual survey of Hollywood's best and worst signers. The "Pirates of the Caribbean" star also was rated best last year.
"Many stars become bad signers once fame and fortune hits, but not Depp. He's even signed autographs for crowds at the airport while carrying luggage," said Steve Cyrkin, editor and publisher of the Santa Ana, Calif.-based magazine.
As for Clooney, "he'll joke as he signs, and make fun of how he looks in photos he's handed to autograph," Cyrkin said.
When it comes to her moniker, however, Diaz gets a flunking grade.
"Cameron Diaz may be a talented actress, but she's persistently a terrible signer. Instead of just turning down a person's autograph request, she'll lecture them about how dumb autographs are," Cyrkin said.
...

Ask Russell Crowe for an autograph and he'll probably rip out a phone and throw it at you.
Well ain't she just special
Maybe if you live in FRANCE Johnny Depp is a good signer. He left the states some time ago.
I hear that Keith Richards is supposed to be good at giving autographs.
I always thought she was a skank, but now I realize she's a skanky biatch.
Monkeys may fly out of my butt.
Hey, how'd that new grill work this week? Did it keep ya in burgers on the 4th? : )

"My fighting is poetry You don't edit Russell Crowe's poetry, you t@sticle!"
"Foitin' round tha world..."
I happen to be waiting for a friend at Logan International when the door opened and off came the Boston Bruins. On 1 piece of paper I had Johnny Bucyk, Derek Sanderson, Bobby Orr and Phil Espisito. You think I can find that now? *whimper*
Actually we had burgers by my aunt & uncle's pool on the 4th.
But over the weekend, I smoked a Boston Butt on the grill and made some good old eastern NC barbecue.
:)
Credit where credit is due, Depp said he would leave and he did, THEN when the violence started over there he said moving there was a mistake.
Yes Depp maybe a lefty but by gosh he walked the walk and did what he said he was going to do then admitted it was mistake.
Alec and Cher and the rest could learn something here!
I've got a couple things to share.
I met the Ramones a couple times before I ever got to see them play (21+ venues kept me out).
Johnny Ramone collected baseball autographs and movie posters for years. I've run into the dealer who sold Johnny Ramone autographs (he's been in the business 30 years). Johnny offered to trade him things signed by the band (while they were still touring) but he turned down the offer. The band's autographs have significantly risen (with 3 members dying within 3 years of each other and being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame).
Also someone asked if Johnny Ramone was offended that someone might ask for his autograph and then just sell it on ebay. Johnny said no because you can't always get in touch with the person you want the autograph of and he felt that there needed to be legitimate autographs floating around on the market.
I hate it, and them. Kids are the worst.
Ack! Too....many...jokes......brain....hurting...
If people REALLY DO hound you for autographs, capitalize on it.
Pablo Picasso did. He'd write small checks (like $3) for things at a store knowing that in many times, the owner would buy the check from the cash register to keep the signature instead. Of course, people COULD suddenly try cashing all those checks.
Ahem....I'll bring fixin's next time!
The overwhelming manliness of my grill will deflect any and all smartassery!
Come on over!
It was awesome.
Good point about Depp. I sincerely like his movies, he is a very talented actor who brings depth and quality to his films.

Someone's ears just pricked up...

I mean, honestly...
I tend to try for autographs of people I like, rather than just how famous they are. I have, among others, Chuck Norris, Natasha Henstridge (she's very nice), Fairuza Balk (ditto), Anne Judson-Yagher, Christina Ricci, Jaime Pressly (she got an Emmy nom! Woo hoo!), Bobby Allison, Dale Murphy, Cynthia Rothrock, Playboy centerfold Donna D'Errico (very nice, and really tiny in person!), Playboy model Breann McGregor (my favorite and an absolute sweetheart), and of course, my *personally auographed picture* of Anna Kournikova, which hangs on my wall. : )
He is one of those must see actors for me, I cannot remember a BAD Johnny Depp film when he was cast in a major role.
I got no problem whatsoever with someone who believes in Liberal causes as long as they are true to their beliefs, not just mouthing the words. But these bozos who run around telling us "little" people how to live and then do the exact opposite ( like Alec and Babs and such) can kiss my RRR.
I've never got that "vibe" from Depp.
He seems to act on hie beliefs and not at all preachy about the issues he believes in.
Besides he is one helluva an actor.
I nearly threw up, martin. Thanks a BUNCH.
:)
Kiefer Sutherland is another one that gets high marks from fans. You can't read 24 fan boards without stories of how sweet he is to his fans.
Even though they may mouth off liberally, I have a modicum of respect for celebs who still treat their fans well and remember who made them what they are. Clooney does get credit for that from me.
The easiest and most straightforward way to get out of signing autographs is to plead not knowing how to write. Total illiteracy would not surprise anyone [autograph seekers have difficulty reading, anyway].
Cool! Jaime Pressly is from near where I live, you know.
One of the workers out in our factory gets wrestlers, NASCAR drivers and other celebrities to autograph his skin, then he goes and gets said autograph permanently tattooed.
I swear I am not making this up. Now THAT'S an autograph collection.
THAT'S going a bit too far, if you ask me. : ) Yeah, I knew Jaime was from NC. Kinston, I think. Is that near you?
LOL!! I love it, stainless.
Behold the power of barbecue!
One mention of it and I knocked this thread almost completely off the tracks.
Yeah, Kinston is about an hour away. My father-in-law lives there.
We pass a "Pressly's Dry Cleaners" on the way into town but something tells me she doesn't work there much.
I have to agree that being a political twit doesn't mean that a person has no redeeming qualities. I think conservatives problem with "stars" is the fact that almost all of Follywood are marxist/socialists and LOUD. I'd forgive them more readily if their movies weren't so far left and unentertaining.
I would doubt it. : ) I've been a fan of Jaime's since her POISON IVY: THE NEW SEDICTION days. And now, on MNIE, everyone sees how talented she really is!
I call BS on this. When you ask Chuck Norris for an autograph, he just roundhouse kicks you in the forehead. :)
Allow old Uncle Exile to comment on the list
Best
1. Johnny Depp - Commie
2. George Clooney - Commie
3. Matt Damon - Who?
4. Al Pacino - Scarface was good
5. Tom Cruise - Lunatic who jumps on couches, gets episodes of South Park banned, and insists he's not gay (he doth protest too much)
6. Angelina Jolie - A tasty lunatic
7. Elijah Wood - Does he know Tiger?
8. Brittany Murphy - I have no opinion, but yowza.
9. Jack Nicholson - I liked Chinatown.
10. Clint Eastwood - The Good, The Bad and The Ugly is one of the best films ever made.
Worst
1. Cameron Diaz - There's Something About Mary was just not funny. Now Zoolander, that was funny.
2. Bruce Willis - Seems like a decent guy.
3. Demi Moore - Still pretty tasty for a senior citizen.
4. Tobey Maguire - Spiderman was lousy.
5. Alan Alda - Hahahaha whiney commie.
6. Halle Berry - Hated Catwoman, loved the costume.
7. Winona Ryder - She stole my pen.
8. Teri Hatcher - still pretty fine.
9. Joaquin Phoenix - That is an illegal use of a silent q.
10. Russell Crowe - "Fightin' Round the World"
Think I'll ping some pals, just for the heckuvit. : )
He signed afterwards. He'll do that. : )
I lost Richard Nixon's autograph on a NY Mets ticket stub!
He told his guards to let us by so he could sign them for me and my friend. He seemed very happy on a beautiful day at a ballgame.
According to local legend, Bobby Orr is extremely friendly---a completely approachable guy who, despite having revolutionized the game of hockey, is very humble and just a "regular joe."

I won't lump any of the celebs on this thread (good/bad signers) into this category but the rudest are those who decry having "conservative" fans in the audience.
We don't pay their salaries to be insulted from the stage, thank you.
It happened to me at a "summer shed" concert venue when Chrissie Hynde (the Pretenders were part of a triple bill) asked from the stage, "Are there any meat eaters here today? Well I hope you choke on it."
Ted Nugent got banned from that same venue for just asking if people in America could speak English.
There's an autographed/inscribed Chuck Norris photo at a Japanese restaurant I go to.
Chuck Norris signs all autographs in human blood. The blood of the autograph-seeker. That's the price one must pay for a minute of Chuck Norris's time.
Does membership in an organization or activist lifestyle affect the box office draw?
Just ask yourself if you would still pay to see a movie starring a known active member of the KKK.
So now we are just down to a matter of degrees. Membership in the DNC won't keep me from going to a movie (although as that party moves to conspiracy minded barking moonbat left, have to thing... have to think). Membership in the Green Party? Communist Party? Friends with Castro? Meets with Saddam? Stands along side Louis Farrahkahn? etc...
Yes. As opposed to many sports or tv legends who think their celebrity is a "get out of jail free" card, Mr. Orr is a regular guy who knows his name is well known, and doesn't want it impugned. He also recognizes he lived the dream so many others would never reach. He's a class act all in all.
I haven't been in a theater in 19 years. I believe the last time I went, I took my 21 yr old daughter and she was 2 at the time. And I rent very few movies. The ones that I usually buy are not made by the barking moonbats. I try not to fund the loudmouth moonbats. The quiet ones are a different matter. A persons politics are theirs but I can't abide using celebrity to push a political agenda. Their celebrity gives them a platform that the average American doesn't have and they abuse it.
