Just saw Pirates--the kids couldn't wait.
Interestingly, there were some positive religious references in the movie.
Curious to see what others thought of it...GG
I will do anything for my kids, bue Lord please spare me another night like this.
"You can't read!"That was one of my favorite scenes. I posted a teeny-weeny review at the bottom, here:
"Yeah, but it's the Bible. You get points for trying."
That, and the guy holding the Rosary who chose to take his chances as opposed to accepting Davy Jones' bargain.
Small references but positive nonetheless, and refreshing for a mainstream summer blockbuster such as this.
This movie was terrible...a big disappointment.
Sort of spoiler ahead so don't read any further if you don't want a hint about the end.
Wait -- I should be more honest.
It was a terrible half movie, because it wasn't a whole movie. There was a very thin plot and no conclusion. They should have flashed a huge "intermission -- come back next May" sign at the end of this one.
Basically one big long "what kind of predicament can we put this group of characters in and let's see how they get out of it."
It was totally unnecessary. The first movie stood on its own. Yes, the main characters survived and clearly there was an opening for a sequel, but it didn't need a sequel. This 2nd outing needs the 3rd installment to complete the weak story. This could have been one movie while still keeping the main characters alive to face another adventure another day.
They fell into the same trap as Back to the Future 2 & 3 and the second trilogy of Star Wars Movies.
But at the time I did notice the religious references pointed out in here...the rosary, trying to read the bible, etc. At least they were respectful to religion.
Personally, I think she's taking this whole Dead Man's Chest thing a bit too literally.
Am anxious to see Pirates.
Am intrigued about the scene with the Rosary. Can't wait.
Sometimes I think the subtle religious messages are the best.
I had hoped for a bit more scenic/sunny camera work, and thought the vistas a bit cloudy and overcast - Depp character was lame this time - as was Davey Jones
and I dont know why - but I was under the impression Keith Richards was supposed to be in this one as Jacks dad
Probably the only character I enjoyed was in the final scene....
yeah - but youve got to give her credit for not turning them into a stuffed pillowcase
I think Keith will show up in the next one.
I enjoyed the movie for what it was--an action packed "summer movie". But it definitely was a big set up for the next one.
Besides I think young Mr. Bloom is one fine specimen of manhood. I can watch anything he's in (elf suit or not) all day long! ;-P
Enjoy! GG
my wife had the same reaction - I dunno why
Daaaarrrggghhh !
Who is that women and were did her breasts go?
I guess most of the folks on this site either don't remember or are too young to have seen "Flash Gorden & Ming, The Merciless" Saturday movie episodes that carried on week after week always leaving you hanging. Disney has caught onto this. I liked Pirates II, and so did the packed audience, mostly adults and tons of women. But....my real glee is that it buried "Superman Returns". The super guy took a massive nose dive this weekend and is now swirling around the toilet bowl towards its final flush. The "Traitor/Treason" Democrat, liberal, left-wing Hollywood scum and vermin that removed "The American Way" from "Superman Returns" are getting their comeuppence. I don't even think a good foreign revenue shot can save this loser. These Democrat liberal traitors will never learn!!! Methinks Disney/Pixar "Cars" and Pirates II from Disney own the movie industry this year. Let's of revenue profit flow into the Disney/Pixar pockets!!! Not so for the liberal failures that brought out "Superman Returns"!!!
I saw it with my daughter on Friday. I thought it was pretty good and enjoyed it.
