U.S. funeral directors are changing the gothic image of funeral homes to reflect the more positive image of death held by most baby boomers.
San Antonio's Mission Park Funeral Chapels & Cemeteries chief Robert Tips told the San Antonio Express-News that as baby boomers become their primary customers, the U.S. funeral industry has shifted to a "celebrating life" mode.
The boomer generation is all about convenience and service with a smile, he said.
Tips said Mission Park is building five new funeral homes in San Antonio that will include facilities for weddings and banquets as well as concessions for funerals.
"The days of morbidly gloomy funeral homes are rapidly coming to a close," Tips said
Hopefully they won't double book! :oD
4 Weddings & a Funeral ping!
What ever happened to dignified, somber showings of respect and grief?
Agreed. If the deceased was loved and admired then grief and sorrow would be the main themes. The funny stuff...the "do you remember when Mom used to make meatloaf?" stuff...would begin after a period of time.
How 'bout a Burger King in one of those funeral homes?
Just a suggestion.
Putin' the FUN back in FUN-erals!!!
Half a century later, and Hugh O'Brien is still on the cutting edge with his recent wedding at Forest Lawn.
Geez.. maybe they'd give a deal to families who book a funeral and a wedding on the same day.
And banquets? Who'd want to run down to the local funeral home for dinner? Imagine going into the wrong room.

Coming soon to a McDonalds near you - the Ronald McFuneeral House. Your friends and family are gonna be "Lovin' it".
;-)
I'd like a Happy Meal with my McFuneeral :)
Yeah, I kinda liked the rituals of a good old-fashioned Catholic funeral with Incense, Frankincense & Myrhh. Latin words that I couldn't understand. Brings back memories......
MILLEE!!!! Whatever happened to your funny threads!!! LOL!
Of course, there is that drunken wake afterwards. ;o)
I like your screen name. l33t. And you've had it for a while! I just learned about l33t speak a couple months ago. You're way ahead of the curve. ;)
The movie, Undertaking Betty
has Christopher Walken playing just such a funeral director.
The Star Trek funeral is hilarious.
That's really bizarre.
I thought all of us Catholics were issued Missals with Latin on one page and English on the next so we could keep track of what was going on.
Didn't know you got a cheat sheet like that. I'm Protestant (and get to drink wine with Communion). I have lots of relatives/friends who are catholic.
Hey! The 60's party generation is passin' on man! Gotta party, dude!
Actually it's called a lack of maturity and respect.
It aint a party without Cotton Candy :)
Yeah, but you had to know the secret handshake to get one.
You are toooo funneeee....gives a whole new meaning to the jingle:
"Hold the pickles, hold the lettuce,
special orders don't upset us,
all we ask is that you let us serve it your wayyyy..."
Hey, you're young and swingin',
No time to think about tomorrow.
But there ain't no use to deny it.
One day you're gonna buy it,
Maybe tomorrow!

Ever see "The Loved One" with Sir John Gielgud and Robert Morse, Jonathan Winters, Anjanette Comer...?
