The Dragonflies Lair~Thread XXIX
The Muse and Poets of the Lair | July 12, 2006 | bentfeather

My Dragon Fly and Me

If I could be a Dragon Fly
and wing my way through the sky
I would never be shy
just me and my Dragon Fly!

By moonlight we ride the wind
chase the comets tail for fun
by day we would hide from the sun
our fragile wings would come undone

On darkest nights we would use
fireflies as our guide
we would dip and we would glide
through the heavens open wide
and scatter diamonds in the night sky
my Dragon Fly and me...

And we would wing past our lovers
silent in the night...
to kiss their face in our flight
much to their surprise and delight
my Dragon Fly and me in sight...

Such a view do we share
away up here in the air
of breezes soft through our hair
my Dragon Fly and me a pair...

Yupper.

Did you get a lot done this week?? I have missed you!

I would imagine it takes a lot of planning for your classes. I am not a good planner, a space cadet mostly.

Warehousing History

Tis there upon the Tor
the ruins of a watchtower ancient and forlorn
amid howling of the storm I swore
I heard the eerie wail of a bygone battlehorn

Was that shadowy forms of men upon the wall
or memories set free
in answer to a now forgotten battle call
and I but chanced to see

There under the greening grass
lay swords and men and hopes now past
who dreamed of some fair lass
now entomb by sod and held ever fast

Under the silent silver moon
below the wind ripped clouds in fury
fate plays a wind voiced tune
and passes on to other places in a hurry

Warehoused amid the ruins they lay
their time of rest goes on
and nothing mortal man may say
will speed that final dawn

Wind scored rocks and stones a Keep may make
but time levels all in its steady flow
equallity for all things here for time's sake
as lives come and then turn and go

Well this appears to be working, I'll post the smaller pictures here, plus the link for each one if you want to see more detail on the TinyPics host site. Let's see if this works:

1. Tuk Tuk 2 Here's another picture of the tuk tuk I drove around sight seeing in.

2. Temple's gabled windows: This shot didn't come out too great, but I thought the gabled windows looked cool. See at the base of the windows are some darkened stone monuments, the next picture is a detail of one of those.

3. Small stone monument: Here's a close up of the small stone monument. There were several around. Notice all the little figurines holding things up and making faces. There was no one around to ask exactly who they all were, but I thought it was interesting to look at.

4. Magnificient Doorway: All the doorways into temples which house big Buddha images and statues have splendid doors like this one. Isn't it grand?

Hi Jim, I don't know if you've met Bentfeather the poet. I hang out here in her Drangonflies' Lair where we all try our hands at some expressive poetry, from time to time.

I'm in Chiang Mai right now, and will be posting pictures of Thailand over the next few months (once a week or so). If you'd like to make a Thai Ping into the Lair let me know and I'll ping you each time I post a set of recent photos, for all your readers who need a Thai fix.

And if you haven't met Bentfeather, then Bentfeather meet JimSEA and JimSEA meet Bentfeather.

Cheers,

starbase

Another Garden, Another Time

Soft the bell tolls
as in the still air it carries sweet
and I think of a garden
where He waited fate and redemption

Alone in ways beyond our conception
He surrendered all taking sin
a life so short and oh so so fleet
yet He touched our souls

I wonder why the English is so large on the marquees.

Well tourism is 6% of the economy, which, due to a number of setbacks, might only grow 2% or 3% this year, when it's been used to growing 4-6%. So take away 6% and it's -4% (recession!!!) Not to mention that area (Khao Sarn Rd.) is almost exclusively for tourists, so spoken and written English is everywhere.

So foreign money is very important, and Thais are true experts at greasing the skids, especially when they want to help you give them something! That can be both quite clever or sinister, depending on the sort of Thais you're dealing with, and as with all places which have humans in them, there are really good and really bad people here in Thailand.

Your poem reminded me of a song I heard the other day. My older son was playing some "Nickelback" and there was this song that I found touching. Some of it was the vocals, some of it was the tune, but some of it was the main lyrics. Here's a part of it...

If everyone cared and nobody cried,
If everyone loved and nobody lied,
If everyone shared and swallowed their pride,
Would we have a world were nobody died.

I know it looks pretty weak just written down, but I was amazed at Nickelback's ability to have touching songs along with some not so touching songs.

That's my bazaar two cents for the night.

On this date in history:

In 1914, a U.S. ship sailed from the Atlantic to the Pacific
Ocean, officially opening the Panama Canal.

In 1935, humorist Will Rogers and pilot Wiley Post were
killed when their plane crashed in Alaska.

In 1947, India and Pakistan won their independence from
Great Britain.

In 1969, the Woodstock Music and Arts Festival opened on
Max Yasgur's farm near Bethel, N.Y., drawing an estimated
400,000 people for three days of music.

In 1985, South African President P.W. Botha, rejecting
Western pleas to abolish apartheid, declared, "I am not
prepared to lead white South Africans and other minority
groups on a road to abdication and suicide."

In 1987, more than 13.5 inches of rain drenched the
Chicago area, causing more than $100 million in damage.

In 1991, the United Nations allowed Iraq to sell up to
$1.6 billion worth of oil to obtain money for food and
medicine.

In 1992, Vietnam blamed Hollywood for creating the "myth"
that U.S. servicemen are being held in Indochina.

In 1993, Pope John Paul II conducted mass for up to
400,000 people at the World Youth Day festival south of
Denver.

In 1995, the Justice Department agreed to pay $3.1
million to white separatist Randall Weaver, whose wife
and teenage son were killed by FBI sharpshooters during
a standoff at his Idaho cabin three years earlier.

In 1998, a bomb blast in Omagh, Northern Ireland,
killed 28 people and injured more than 300 others.
A 29th victim died a month later. It was the worst
attack in 29 years of paramilitary violence in Ulster.

Also in 1998, Pakistan handed over to Kenya a suspect
who reportedly confessed to involvement in the bombing
of the U.S. Embassy in Nairobi eight days earlier.

In 2002, the Centers for Disease Control confirmed that
the United States was experiencing its worst outbreak
of mosquito-borne West Nile virus since the virus
appeared in the nation in 1999.

In 2003, Libya admitted responsibility for the 1988
bombing of a Pan Am airliner over Lockerbie, Scotland,
that claimed 270 lives and agreed to pay reparations
that reports say could total $2.7 billion.

In 2004, U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Anan called on
Central Africa governments to curb militias in the
border areas of Burundi, Congo, Rwanda and Uganda
following the massacre of more than 150 Congolese
refugees, mostly women and children, in Burundi.

Also in 2004, Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez
survived a referendum to oust him.

In 2005, newly formed Hurricane Irene strengthened
to 85 mph winds but forecasters said it was unlikely
to pose a threat to the United States.

"That would be utopia."

True. It is pretty much "pie in the sky" idealism, but the song actually touched a string in my soul. Probably has to do with the "nobody dies" line. When you see young people, full of potential, get killed by drunken idiots, the mourning probably never disappears. Somewhere in the utopian part of your brain, you wish that nobody had to die.

I recently lost my sister-in-law, she was a good woman who loved my eldest brother well. He died on the operating table in 2001, she was devastated by his passing.

I totally believe they are now together.

"I totally believe they are now together."

That is the comfort to those who know Jesus. In fact the Apostle Paul uses "this old house" analogy to proclaim that to be absent in the body (dead) is to be present with the Lord.

2Corintians 5:1 ¶ For we know that if our earthly house of [this] tabernacle were dissolved, we have a building of God, an house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens.

2 For in this we groan, earnestly desiring to be clothed upon with our house which is from heaven:

3 If so be that being clothed we shall not be found naked.

4 For we that are in [this] tabernacle do groan, being burdened: not for that we would be unclothed, but clothed upon, that mortality might be swallowed up of life.

5 Now he that hath wrought us for the selfsame thing [is] God, who also hath given unto us the earnest of the Spirit.

6 Therefore [we are] always confident, knowing that, whilst we are at home in the body, we are absent from the Lord:

7 (For we walk by faith, not by sight:)

8 We are confident, [I say], and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord.

This was also talked about in Thesalonians...

1Th 4:13 ¶ But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope.

1Th 4:14 For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him.

The Apostle wasn't saying not to be sad, as when someone leaves on a trip, but don't mourn as though you have no hope. We use the word hope alittle differently today, then when it was penned in Thessalonians. The Greek word "elpis" means an expectation of good.

While we can not know completely, the hearts of others, concerning their relation with God, we ourselves can have assurance of our own salvation.

1John 5:12 He that hath the Son hath life; [and] he that hath not the Son of God hath not life.

13 These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.

I appologize if my post distracts from the beauty of your Lair. I really didn't intend on preaching. I both find comfort in the Bible and I find beauty in the style in which alot of it is written. I only hope that some of this may ease some of your sorrow.

Sincerely
