My wife and I were always planning on it but were going to put them (were expecting our second on thanksgiving) in until the 2nd/3rd grade. That way we could have a third and she would not have to be home sick (she gets hyperemesis during the first trimester), pregnant, and watching two kids alone for 9 hours a day.

I'm hopeful firstly that all of our days are numbered and after having time to sleep on it I realize that there are far worse things that could have happened (though yesterday I felt like she was handed a death sentence). If God blesses her with a spirit inclined towards him she could be allergic to air and I should be grateful.

I do hope that she will outgrow it as about 1/5 kids do, I just would prefer her not have to go through life sticking herself with an epipen...

Do consider that the Homeschooling community is really into helping each other.
I'm going to be in the hospital for 4 days starting tomorrow. I can't tell you the amount of people who have volunteered to, take my kids (and continue lessons), bring us meals and do my laundry. I have taken meals and have watched kids while the mom was in the hospital myself.

Your wife might just find that sending the kids to school is not as helpful as being a homeschooling mom at that time.

Just a thought!

Suzy,

Thanks for the heads up, we are going to see the allergist next week but as Eahra does not present Asthma I dont think I will let anyone treat her at this time. We will do Allergy test every year until (at least) she is five. If when she gets to 5 she is still allergic we will start looking for a way to migtigate the allergy..

My friend's son didn't show asthma until he was 3.

20 % is not a huge amount. Even if she does, you've got years of diligent inspection of labels ahead of you. Carrying an Epi-pen and children's liquid Benadryl is your best bet. The dye free gives fewer side effects, it doesn't leave you feeling as spacy. Being liquid, it gets into your system faster than any other form of Benadryl.

The only way to deal with a food allergy is complete avoidance for months to years. Sometimes the allergy goes away for good by doing that but other times it comes back eventually. There's no way of knowing with food allergies. They are the worst. (Spoken as someone who has to deal with them)

You know, I'm not sure, but I don't think so. Why do you ask?

Hmm, yeah, I'm not sure if that would be helpful for him - I don't think he has asthma. He does have a lot of allergies though - peanuts, eggs, dogs, milk, etc... We keep hoping he'll outgrow some. I wanna say he did outgrow the eggs allergy...

My friend's allergy doc told her that almost ALL peanut allergy sufferers have asthma.

I did a search for peanut allergies and found your thread. Last night we had to take our 15 month old son to the ER because of a severe reaction to peanut butter. We had no idea about his allergy until then. He is OK now, but we are sad for his future. Do you have any good advice based on the few months that have passed since your post?

First thing is to get your son tested for more allergies specifically fish, shellfish, and tree nuts are really bad allergies. Also get tested for soy, gluten, eggs, and other common allergies.

My daughter ended up being allergic to peanuts and eggs, while the peanuts are more dangerous the eggs are harder to handle. The hardest part for me was looking at my daughter like she was not handed a death sentence.

Some kids, very few, out grow a peanut allergy. Usually they present the allergy very young, do not have a life threatening reaction, and do not have too many food allergies. For the kids the don't get over the allergy they are working on a safe shot that would not allow your kid to eat peanuts but would insulate him from a reaction to small amounts of peanuts (somewhere between 1-9 peanuts..
