No-I've only been to NYC three times in my life, and I was far more interested in shows, restaurants and Central Park-is it as badly run as I imagine it is?

I remember seeing something in an online news magazine awhile back that claimed most of the UN staff hadn't paid for their parking spaces for months on end.

I took my two sons....the tour guide was a young Arab woman (I forget which country) - I early on warned my boys to not speak so they wouldn't know we were Americans. They stopped by a display about the atom bomb dropped on japan, that was my first clue they hated us. Then they critiqued the norman rockwell painting......ie...rockwell was the typical ignorant American who has the arrogance to paint himself into each picture he paints....rme......but they were particularly ticked off that at the time we were refusing to pay our dues......we were more than glad to be out of there.....such hatred from all those foreigners who came here -- my boys ranted about those ingrats for hours afterwards.

ennui That's French!

I've been trying to learn a few handy phrases for my business trip to Quebec next month. Rick Steves has put out an interesting little guide with "help for women" in the back.

I have learned to say, "Drop dead," "go away,"I am married," "I have a contagious illness" and "I am a lesbian."

(Kinda sucks all the fun out of travel, doesn't it.)

not sure what the deal is with Catholics and Masons. But i did recently verify that it is not possible to be a Catholic (in good standing, not just in one's own mind- GOD KNOWS there are plenty of those) and a Mason.

I saw that. Padre Pio wrote a tear jerker called "The Agony of Jesus" (I think) - it was powerful. Padre Pio would want a real crucifix not that farce of a cross thing on a chuch named after him. -and real kneelers there as well, I wonder if they pulled the kneelers too.

OK here's some highlights from Humanum Genus

Bottom line, no secret societies, if you are keeping secrets, you are probably up to no good.

I am confident there are Freepers much more knowlegable than I on this subject. My father was a Mason and a Shriner, and my grandfather was treasurer of the Masonic Lodge in San Francisco for fifty years. Until we receive better information, I understand the problem is that to be a Mason, one must retain secret vows and rituals that cannot be divulged to the Catholic fathers and priests, even during confession. A devout Catholic would never agree to such an arrangement.

all work and no play

I will be touring the production facilities of a wood flooring plant, along with the owners of the small family business I manage. We will be there four days, only one of which will include the mill, and we are already talking mimosas at breakfast, shopping and dining. The only rub is that we are leaving Florida, with a stop over in Detroit and a desination of Quebec. Quebec.

Everything I know about Quebec I learned from Triumph the Insult Comic dog. here.

Favorite Line: I haven't seen so many Bush haters since Ricky Martin's loft party!

i personally do not give a good dang who is a Mason, but they just can't consider themselves a Catholic. i saw there were tempers flying on that thread, but facts are facts. Pope Ben weighed in in his previous position.

A long Word For The Day thread I see,
It must not be filled with ennui,
But reading I'll shirk,
For I had to work,
I'll try to make post 203.
