Prayers for my 24 year old kittie -- (doing much better now)
Me | 07/20/2006 | me

Posted on 07/20/2006 11:51:19 AM PDT by freedumb2003

My kittie "Musica" is 24 years old. Up until now, she has done well but the vet says her thyroid is failing.

She has been with me for almost my entire adult life. She has been on thyroid (and other) medication for the last 6 years but it looks like the medication isn't working any more.

The vet said radiation therapy might work but 24 equates to over a hundred years old in human terms. It would be torture to put her through that. Even a trip to the vet is an ordeal.

Ping to diamond6's dilemma.

Can anyone help?

Whoever has the kittie ping list can you extend the ping?

I really feel for you diamond -- but you can see I am not in a position to help. But I will pray for a good home for your sweetie.

Thank you so much, and I'm sorry for being so self-centered. How are things going with your cat? I haven't had a chance to read the thread, I have a four year old who is very "distracting" (smile).

Praying that the Lord would reveal the perfect home for your beloved kitty ...

Trussell ... Do you know who handles the California ping list?

Your problem is NOT "self-centered." We can't reason with our pets -- we have to take them for what they are and sometimes it just won't work. A barking dog is a neighborhood problem, so (sadly) is a caterwauling kitty. We have to be fair to your neighbors.

I am pleased that this thread might become someplace where people can come for help, prayers, comfort or support for their kitties. There is the kitty ping list, but I think it is a little more up-beat.

Musica's thyroid has normalized again, thank God, so the prayers and warm wishes certainly worked. I don't know how many more crises I will have to live through (at 24, she is apx. 120 human years old), but I am happy to have made it through this one. Every day we get with her is a gift. The vet calls her his "Miracle Cat" -- understandably.

I will take all good news for her.

We are all here to help d6 -- no problem is too small.

Here's another one of my Mandy. As you can see, she's quite malnourished!

That is almost exactly how Musica looked 10 years ago (she was chubby believe it or not)!!

What a wonderfully spoiled doll! :)

Yes, Mandy height wise is about average. Weight wise, she was something like 15 1/2 pounds when she was at the vet a couple of months ago. Absolutely love my girl.

I also just noticed some of Mandy and Musica's markings. The little tuft of white at the chest and on the belly. Our Tabbys are stylin'!

You've got a talker. Usually they are oriental types in their lineage. Longer sleeker body types then broad faced Persians types. But a talker can be demanding. I feel for you. How hard it must be not to be close to him. Maybe he needs a buddy.

When I got a second cat, the vet warned me my first cat would no longer be a people cat but a cat's cat. Also, it's usually important to bring in a kitten not a grown cat.

My neutered male Abyssinian was almost like a surrogate mom to the kitten I got. He also spent more time with the kitten then me from then on. But, that kitten adored me too. He would go from room to room meowing and looking for me if he heard my voice on the phone.

I don't know what your neighborhood is like but an outdoor cats life expectancy is 2 years mostly because of cars. Mentally, warn your cats with images of being hit by cars to keep them out of the road.

Check out "What the Animals Tell Me" by Sonya Fitzpatrick and "Cat Talk: The Secrets of Communicating with Your Cat" also by Sonya Fitzpatrick. She had some interesting things especially about what a cat scratching post must be like to work and prevent scratching furniture.

Years ago I used the services of animal psychic Beatrice Lydecker after reading about her in Cat Fancy magazine. I only told her of my cats' names and they 'told' her things that only we knew. Around that time she was on Regis's show before it was syndicated, too. She said animals talk to her in images and we can 'talk' to them that way too. The listening to them, well Sonya's book goes into it, but way too hard work for me.

Well, he's made it eight years, so I guess my cat has "broken the record".

I just hope I can find a loving home for him.

I will continue to pray for your beloved Musica. These are my babies. :o)

Molly McGuire wanted to say she's glad Musica is feeling better.

Mr. Bubbles is happy that Musica is doing better, too.

FYI, you can alleviate the problem by feeding the cat late at night. Then they just want to sleep the meal off and it's well into the morning hours by the time they wake up.

Don't forget to thank your vet too! And don't forget that for Musica to hit the 24-year mark, you had to have taken pretty good care of her as well! Still, that's great news, and it gives me hope that my brood will live nearly as long.

24 years???
I did not think that was possible - I thought the upper range was 20.
We have always gotten our cats off of the streets as rescue kitties - don't really know how bad their early developement ever is - our record is 17 years for my psycho-calico - she let me know when she was ready to go - wept like a baby anyway.

Musica's beloved "sister," also a tabby, passed away 5 years ago (so that would be 19 years) -- I still grieve to this day.
