Geology Picture of the Week, July 30-August 5, 2006: Spray Falls (Pictured Rocks Natl. Lakeshore)

Posted on 08/01/2006 12:48:22 PM PDT by cogitator

Last week's picture of McWay Falls, and research that found it, indicated that it's the only waterfall in California that directly enters the ocean (at high tide). Quite by accident, last week I also discovered a picture of the remarkable Spray Falls at Picture Rocks National Lakeshore, Michigan, which pretty much enters directly into Lake Superior all the time.

Volcano news: Api Siau in Indonesia is threatening; Piton de La Fournaise was erupting last week; Etna's flank eruption shut down, followed by brief activity in the summit craters -- observers speculate that a new flank eruption will occur soon. New pictures of the Pu'u O'o summit are at the Hawaii Volcano Observatory Kilauea Update page

That one's neat but Taquanamon falls are better. Munising falls were pretty neat till much of the clff collapsed a few years back.

LOL... I saw it, too... reminds me of the rock formation at Disney's California Adventure:

And that tree on the end of the nose is in a pretty precarious position!

No problem. Do you live near there? I grew up in Wisconsin but I never traveled to Pictured Rocks.

I go to the family cabin in Hayward a few times a year.

I'm a Cheesehead at heart, and would live north of the border if I had my way. But, I'm down in the Land of Lincoln.
