Firefox 1.5.0.6 is a stability update that is part of our ongoing program to provide a safe Internet experience for our customers. We recommend that all users upgrade to this latest version.
- Fixed an issue with playing Windows Media content
Release Date: August 2, 2006
Mozilla.com provides Firefox for Windows, Linux, and Mac OS X in a variety of languages. To get Firefox 1.5.0.6, download it here. For builds for other systems and languages not provided, see the Contributed Builds section at the end of this document.
TOPICS: Computers/Internet
KEYWORDS: bugfix; firefox; update
Not a critical fix, but I thought I'd share. Most folks probably have FF set to auto-upgrade and should get notice of this new update soon. This is a new patch in addition to the July 27th release.

As much as I like Firefox, I am unhappy lately with the inconsistencies with some extensions. Flash occasionally locks up, etc.

I am sorry that I ever installed FF. I thought that it would solve some problems, but caused more.

thanks. I was going to say I got it the other day, but it must have been the 27th release.

Ditto. But with 15% market share and growing such issues will hopefully become a thing of the past when more websites start encoding specifically for Firefox.

Just got the upgrade notice 5 minutes ago.
Rebooting FF now.
To: TommyDale
My FF has lately had trouble loading images, but I won't go back to IE. That is a nightmare.

Oh, I agree. Those who post images or other files that are incompatible with Firefox just won't get my eye. There is absolutely no way I will use IE except for updating Microsoft products, because it is required.

Go to yahoo and try to run the video of Danica Patrick on this page. If your system runs it okay, I will apologize to Firefox fans. The one where Bob and Jerry sound off on Danica? Works fine for me (but you have to listen to the short Yahoo commercial first)

For me, it's not images that are incompateable. Say on a page of indexed thumbnails, only about half of them will display. If I hit "reload" the rest would come in, but lately even that isn't working. I don't know, maybe I will "uninstall/reinstall FF.

Is it more virus/popup/worm/trojan/spyware prone than the alternatives?

From the release notes:
Poorly designed or incompatible Extensions can cause problems with your browser, including make it crash, slow down page display, etc. If you encounter strange problems relating to parts of the browser no longer working, the browser not starting, windows with strange or distorted appearance, degraded performance, etc, you may be suffering from Extension or Theme trouble. Restart the browser in Safe Mode. On Windows, start using the "Safe Mode" shortcut created in your Start menu or by running firefox.exe -safe-mode. On Linux, start with ./firefox -safe-mode and on Mac OS X, run: cd /Applications/Firefox.app/Contents/MacOS/ ./firefox-bin -safe-mode
When Firefox is started in Safe Mode, all extensions are disabled and the Default theme is used. Disable the Extension or Theme that is causing trouble and then start normally.
If you uninstall an extension that is installed with your user profile (i.e. you installed it from a web page) and then wish to install it for all user profiles using the -install-global-extension command line flag, you must restart the browser once to cleanse the profile extensions datasource of traces of that extension before installing with the switch. If you do not do this you may end up with a jammed entry in the Extensions list and will be unable to install the extension globally.
If you encounter strange problems relating to bookmarks, downloads, window placement, toolbars, history, or other settings, use the Firefox Safe Mode to disable all extensions, themes, and optionally attempt to clean up any corrupted data.

Worked for me.
I run 5.05, but I do have to admit I have to right click and 'open in new window'.
Could be my firewall preventing me from directly clicking on it.

Noscript rocks. You don't realize how much javascript is out there until you have this extension.

Other useful extensions:
- Fasterfox
- Flashblock
- ShowIP
- Xinha Here! (for Freeper posting, it rocks!)
- LiveHTTPHeaders
- HtmlValidator
- LinkChecker
Flashblock and Xinha Here! are the most useful on a day to day basis.

BTW, I'm running Firefox/1.5.0.5.
To: NotJustAnotherPrettyFace
It ran on 1.5.0.5 and earlier versions, but not on the new release. I am going to roll back to a previous version.

Xinha is great for editing long, detailed responses. For my day to day use and just short replies, I've installed BBCode and BBCodeXtra.

Are you running windows? Make sure there isn't another copy of it hanging out. Close firefox and check the task manager and see if it still shows up.
Also, though it shouldn't need it, it never hurts to reboot windows and see if it still fails.

Thx for your help. I checked and there isn't another firefox running and I just rebooted.
I think my security program (Kaspersky) is preventing Firefox from connecting but I can't locate the setting so that I can change the command.

But with 15% market share and growing such issues will hopefully become a thing of the past Or at least start coding to W3C standard instead of to IE.
I was shopping at Sears online yesterday and found the section where I wanted my item only worked in IE. Now I do have the IE Tab extension so I could get in and look at it (exercise equipment ain't cheap!). But I didn't buy, I just used "Contact Us" to say that since their site is IE only, and I use Firefox, that I won't be buying from there.

One new thing is that text has to be changed every time I click on.
Another I just don't like the format as well. Minor items.

If you are running the Adblock extension, try disabling it.
Sometimes Adblock will block content that you actually want. This happens because Adblock uses filters to match content that looks like it might be an ad. Sometimes it will mistake good content for bad.

They have a problem, but it's still better than IE.
