I am sorry they turned out the way they did, but you can't be dismissive of your fans and expect them to reward you with platitudes. The Dixie Chicks had a shot at being one of the very best vocal groups, but they managed to snatch total defeat from the jaws of victory with the innane statements Natalie insisted on making. They made their own bed of hatred, now they reap the results of their own stupidity. Damn shame too!
The Chicks are good musicians, and a fun group.
At the same time I am delighted that their anti-American comments, and rude comments toward President Bush have torpedoed their career, and sunk this recent tour.
I am laughing with scorn at the leftists who said they would support the Chicks, and that none of their talk would hurt their career in the least. -- especially those who at the beginning of this recent tour, said "See! The Chicks Ride Again!"
Obviously the beginning of the tour and the first release of the recent album, was totally subsidized by the record company, in order to kick-start the whole money-machine again. The failure of THAT attempt is the best part of the entire escapade.
There are probably a dozen "decent" musicians slinging hash all across this country working nights with country bands and looking for a break. These buttheads got their break and tossed it in the trash. Screw em.
Doesn't matter if people won't listen to them.
Flashback: Dixie Chicks' One-Day Ticket Sales Make History

3/6/03, 7 a.m. ET) -- The Dixie Chicks made music history yet again when they sold more than 867,000 concert tickets in one day. Tickets to 59 of their Lipton Presents Dixie Chicks Top Of The World tour dates went on sale through Ticketmaster on Saturday (March 1). At day's end, 51 of the arena shows were already sold out, with few tickets left at the remaining eight shows, and totaling more than $49 million in sales. In doing so, the Dixie Chicks surpassed sales records set previously by Madonna, U2, the Rolling Stones, Paul McCartney, the Backstreet Boys, and *NSYNC.
Their website reports that one future concert is "postponed due to heat"...they are so worried about the health of their fans, they are "postponing" it to an unnamed future date. Yeah, right.
WELL SAID!
The Dixie Chicks suck bigtime. 'nuff said.
The show that was postponed by heat (Jones Beach, Long Island New York) was only 20% sold and it has since been cancelled per the revised tour schedule rleased last night.
You could have included a BARF tag just before your last paragraph but NOOOOOOOOO...you just let it rip!
(BUT, what else would one expect from Maryland - a REAL conservative stronghold!)
Postponed due to heat??/ You mean they can predict the weather?? Why didnt they say due to rain, if they can predict one they should be able to predict the other.
Maybe Natalie meant she had prickly heat .
Ya know I can uinderstand Natalie. She is married to an Iranian, but the other two going along with her is strange. Do they really need her that bad. I think it was the Oak Tree boys who got rid of that character they had with them for a while who wouldnt shave and take a shower. They never missed a stroke with the idiot gone. There is another Natalie out there someone who could take this ones place and if they are smart hey will look for her.
Be careful, the political officer will be around shortly to re-program you!
Seriesly, don't worry about all the dung about to be heaped on you. I'm living proof that one can survive hundreds of posts stating that anyone who likes the Chicks (oh, and damn me to hell, I actually went to one of their concerts!) is not a patriot, is a sheep, stupid, blah blah blah. The fact that you can separate the singers from their music puts you in the top percentage of people who actually think for themselves.
Fridays are a good day for threads like these, for some reason they become incredibly funny! Just don't mention Elvis!
That being said...there was a time when most musicians and actors supported their country first or at least understood the perils of mixing politics with their careers.
I do not have a Dixie Chick recording...but I must say that if I were part of that group, I'd distance myself from the one with a career death wish...
They a certainly reaping what they sowed. I can't imagine insulting one's fans or clients.
..so what.
We don't like their politics.
Lindsay Lohan, the actress, was asked about some political issue once. She replied that half her fan-base was Republican and half was Democratic, so why should she say something to alienate either half?
Save your effort. Remember them as they were, before they self-destructed. This latest album is too full of bile to be enjoyable, which is a shame. When they want to have fun, they're a heck of a lot of fun!
I think of this whole thing like a big fight between a husband and wife. After everything has been said, and everybody has had time to cool down, it's time to settle down and try to see the other person's point of view. Maybe there can be a little growth on both sides and things can work out.
But this doesn't work if, just when you are settling down to work things out, your wife says "You know, I was right all along. And P.S., you're a moron". This is what the Chicks have done with there recent statements and this latest album. If they're going to be that way, you can't blame the fans for walking away.
Well said KeepUSFree.
