From their website:

MESSAGE FROM NATALIE, EMILY & MARTIE:
To our Fans:
Any reports being made about the cancellation of our upcoming Accidents And Accusations tour are completely false. (really? LOL)

We have known since March 2003 that our path in this business would have obstacles at every pass. We have enjoyed meeting each one head-on and we will continue to do so. Dixie Chicks fans are as active and dedicated as they come. This time around we are willingly feeling our way through uncharted territory. Things don't come as easy as they might have come in the past, and it makes each accomplishment more exciting and appreciated.

We will go where the fans are with great anticipation and no regrets. (really?) To find out (along with us) where that is, visit www.dixiechicks.com for all updates to Accidents And Accusations tour information.

Love, The Chicks

The second time they ran their mouths about how awful America was, they also ran off those who had been willing to give them a second chance.

Can you spell toast?

I think conservative needs to be left in. There is definetly 2 sides to country music. The traditional, and the side that New York is trying to foist upon us.

I remember watching a country music award show 2-3 years ago, and they had some twit from Queer Eye on with Dolly Parton. And he was making his gay comments about how certain male stars looked. At that time I thought to myself, that this wasn't about knowing an audience, and playing to it. This is about agenda.

I think I saw one more award show since then, and saw similar things happening. And CMT, is just MTV wrapped in country music. But its still MTV with its "New York chic".

Country music is becoming less and less "conservative country" and more and more "liberal pop"

The odd thing about that list is that Nashville is not on it. The epicenter of country music is still, (as far as I know), playing host to them. I was up there last weekend and their concert notice was still scrolling on the Gaylord Entertainment Center's marque.

Country Music Television (CMT) does the same thing. They are trying so hard to push non-country acts into the country scene, to shape the "face" of country music. Here are some of the non-country artists you'd have seen on CMT over the past year: Bruce Springsteen, Sheryl Crow, John Fogerty, Jewel, Los Lonely Boys, Dixie Chicks, and so on...

I sooooo wish you could pay for only the channels you want - I'd think CMT would fail miserably.

Since Willie thought they got a bum rap maybe he can take them on his tour and use them as an opening act. Or maybe both Willie and the Hens can preform for Kinky at his political stops as he runs for governor of TX.

I just hate the "groupthink" mentality around here sometimes

I can get behind that. But it isn't just that the Chicks dissed the President anymore. They insulted and patronized their fans -- the people who, like you, enjoyed their music. Good musicians they may be, but there are a lot of good musicians out there who deserve attention and don't thumb their noses at the people who appreciate them. The Chicks did the absolute dumbest thing any entertainer, in any area of show business, can do, and that can't help but transcend whatever music they put out.

There is also the matter of the liberal media culpability in all of this. The hysterically-fawning articles (especially the Time cover), that basically demanded everybody like the Dixie Chicks and buy their CD insulted the intelligence of record-buyers from coast-to-coast. People just don't like to be told what they're supposed to like -- a fact that leftists will never understand.

Whatever the merits of the music, this is a total meltdown of epic proportions, and it all comes down to their embracing of the Left as somehow "smarter" than the average Joe. If they'd rather have people in Che shirts at their concerts, so be it, but the truth the media always obscures is that there really aren't all that many folks in those t-shirts, and they usually outgrow them, to the peril of the entertainers who attach their careers to that "set."

I used to sell satelite tv service, and we had all the programming on it. I preferd GAC (Great American Country) over CMT everytime. Haven't seen GAC now for a few years, so I don't know if its still the same.

GAC is available on the next programming section up from what I currently have, but I can't justify the extra $10 a month.

I know decent musicians when I hear them.

The standard of decency must have risen a bit since you last checked.

Unless what you're saying is "decent - nothing more." They are moderately competent musicians, nothing special. Maines at least can hold pitch, although she overdoes the sliding between notes. She's a little screechy on top, but that may be a "country thing" (country music is definitely not my area of expertise). But the backup singers are dull and not always dead on pitch, and the accompaniment is so over-engineered - damped and tweaked and remixed - that it doesn't sound "real".

I have never heard them sing live, so I have no idea if they actually can sing in tune. It's amazing what sound engineers can do. (Best examples I know of this are the Who and Fleetwood Mac. It was embarassing to hear them live, as they wandered around hunting for the pitch.)

Exactly my point. I've never heard them live.

Our choir has recorded a couple of times, you'd think we were the Clare College Choir after the sound engineers worked their magic . . .

[I own one Dixie Chicks CD, which I still love--it's old--before Goodbye Earl. As far as my feelings towards the DC's: shadenfreude.]
What I can't stand is the name-calling. Upthread someone calls them "sluts." That kind of name-calling doesn't reflect on any of the Chicks. It reflects on the person who posted the comment and even more on FR, unfortunately. Name-calling is just so elementary-schoolish. [And I am not without sin in this regard.]

With you on Alison Kraus. That's a musician!

I play a little bit at bluegrass. I don't like the slick modern "country" music at all. I grew up on Doc Watson and Earl Scruggs, so you know where I'm coming from.

I knew a couple of people who wanted to give them a fair chance. Only thing was, they are big Reba fans. No more DC music for them.

I quit asking what Maines was thinking when she made her comments. Over the last few years, I've heard her slam those who got the band where they are and Toby Keith but I still wonder why she decided to recently insult Reba and her fans. She is a moron.

This dixi chix caused me to change the dial LONG before they committeed career suicide.

Give it a rest. It really does not matter how good they are, every dollar spent goes to giving them a venue to bash the USA with their leftist rant.

They are 100% replacable and I predict the studio will end up owning all the rights to their album and give them over to some other fungible talent to recycle the songs in a few years. (perhaps with a greater emphasis on the man bashing parts)

Some interesting observations about the Dixie Chicks in this thread. Here is some sane commentary from yours truly:

1. The Dixie Chicks are good, not outstanding musicians.

2. They developed their own "sound", like the Eagles have their own "sound" and Randy Travis has his own "sound", and it made them a hit. That is what makes most groups popular. When you hear their music, you KNOW it is them with having it announced.

So, they get a lot of credit for developing that sound, which I enjoy.

3. They Chicks have absolutely torpedoed their success. And it is NOBODY's fault but their own. Natalie Mains can't blame Toby Keith. Her problem is in the mirror.

4. They are trying to cross over to "pop", but they are trying to do that with a fiddle player and a banjo player. Newsflash to the chicks - the young "pop" and "rock" crowds don't like fiddles and banjos.

So, the Chicks can't use their good (but not outstanding) musical talents to change their musical "sound".

5. They have drawn great attention to their beliefs. Oops. Their beliefs (at least what is being made public) makes them sound like angry, whiny liberals. Guess what? The vast majority of the country doesn't like angry, whiny liberals.

Some free advice for the Chicks. Grow up in your beleifs and antics or get ready to live off your previous earnings.

Anyone know how many tix the finally wound up selling for their Pittsburgh, PA date? I know it wasn't selling well, Country Radio here has basically completely ingnored their new albumn and work, in fact the only part of any of their new work I have heard to date were clips they had on their own ads for their concert that they were paying for.... just curious what the final numbers were.
