How is it that a DNA match wasn't made back in 1997 or 1998? This pervert was a suspect back then. This sounds like a sloppy police investigation.

His profile page said John Mark Karr II, which implies the son. Although the creep is tiny, it looks a little too tiny to be the father.
She took the Klaas thing pretty hard obviously. She actually drove by the guys car. God, that gives me the willies. Then she was out on the property all night by herself watching a friends dogs.
She has never been back there and her friend sold the place shortly after. The sick f*** who killed that little girl did a lot more damage than some folks realize.
We've talked about it a lot and I think she realizes in her head that there was nothing she could have done. The poor child was already dead. But in her heart she's convinced that if she'd just called 911 something might have been done to save Polly.
So, I not only give Mrs. L lots of hugs, I'm not stingy about them with Lurker Jr or for that matter close friends and family. If I've learned anything in the last few years it's how quickly people you love can be taken from you.
There's one moment in my life I really, really regret not taking a close friend by the hand and telling him how much I loved him. I'll not make that mistake again.

Some guesses to your questions:
If he did it, I would like to know the reason for the ransom note.
Maybe after her death he wanted to make it look like a kidnapping. However, if you remember, there was a strange and specific dollar amount cited in the 'ransom note' (something like $183k) which was a reference to a bonus that only a certain number people at Mr. Ramsey's work would know about.
Did he kidnap her, write and leave the note, then kill and return her to the basement, or did he try to make it look like a kidnapping gone wrong?
Investigators found pineapple in a saucer on the kitchen table like it was eaten in a calm manner which doesn't suggest it was a kidnap per se., which begs the question; where was the babysitter?

I've read that a lot of killers try and plant themselves into a case, this guy was no different. Thank God, or he wouldn't have been caught.
