Spice Girls top bands reunion poll

The Spice Girls have been voted the band most people would like to see get back together.
Even though it's been a decade since they burst onto the music scene with the undeniably catchy Wannabe and their Girl Power slogan, the five-some took 17% of the vote in the Yahoo poll.
They beat legendary music acts such as The Jam and the Stone Roses to take the top spot.
Rock legends Led Zeppelin took second place and The Police came in third.
"The Spice Girls' music, like it or loathe it, has that amazing ability to transport the listener straight back to their heyday," said Gareth Bellamy, Editor of Yahoo! Music UK.
And voters might just get their wish.
The girls - Victoria Beckham, Emma Bunton, Geri Halliwell, Melanie Chisholm and Melanie Brown - are rumoured to be planning a comeback.

For that, it is more about nostalgia than ever liking or disliking a song. You just remember what you were doing when you heard it.
Modern radio exists on this notion and formats by era of hits rather than genre.

I can think of a lot of bands that should reunite for a tour, but the Spice Girls would NEVER be on that list.

How the hell can a group that was only a big deal for about a year have a "comeback"?
The groups that could have a comeback are the ones that made music that people still listen to like the Beatles (obviously they couldn't do it), Led Zep, Pink Floyd, etc. The Spice Girls were a gimmick, nothing more.

I see your point...Slowhand was a huge influence on George's music and viceversa, and I am sure he can play George's parts just as well. Now, add Julian Lennon (for the voice and physical resemblance to John) and you have yourself a semi-reunion.

Don't forget George's son Dhani (he plays guitar, but I haven't heard him sing).
Eric Clapton, Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, and Dhani Harrison (along with many others) did play together during a show called "Concert for George." I saw it on PBS and bought the DVD, which is very good. I liked Julian's first CD, but he seems to have disappeared.

With maybe two or three exceptions (Grateful Dead, Eagles and a couple others), the most legendary groups in history have been from the UK. Unless this poll was limited to people under 20 years old, I don't see how they ever came up with the Spice Girls.

Back in 1988 I saw Clapton play and he had Mark Knopfler (sp?) of Dire Straits touring with him and doing back-up vocals and that concert was absolutely incredible!

The Jam were one of the top sellling artists in U.K. history. They part of the 'class of 77' that included the Sex Pistols and the Clash. But they are most known for being the band that launched the "mod" movement. Oh yeah, they also played ferocious rock and roll.
Perhaps you have heard of ex-Jammer Paul Weller, who is now a solo artist of some renown.
To: Millee
True. You simply have to take any poll with a grain of salt as the way questions are posed and the likely influence of the questioner are often mitigating factors.
Having said that, Rage Against The Machine reunion!!!

Loved XTC. I saw them live in 1981 at the Hollywood Palladium. I think it was their last tour.
The show was okay, not great. I heard that Andy Partridge has serious stage fright or something.
