I liken the Barrett to a .300 Win Mag. The M-21 has been around for a long time and it is still used by the USMC. The M-14 is a beautiful weapon, I have a Armscorp National Match one and love to shoot it, though it is a bear to shoulder that recoil and steel baseplate for someone like me with boney shoulders. Close the spindle valve and it is for sure a tack driver. Mine only has the medium weight NM barrel too, the M-21 has the heavy weight NM barrel.
I also have a Remington 700 BDL that I have had quite a bit of work done on to make it emulate a M-24; B&C composite stock, glassed bed, trigger dropped to 2 lbs, tactical black coating on all the metal, etc. No length of pull adjustment though, not really needed. I have a Pentax Lightseeker II 6-24x44 scope on it with a mildot reticle, it's a beauty. It has the original stock barrel on it and I would not swap it out for a heavy barrel for anything. My best 3 round group at 100 yds is 0.26" ctc. Was having a great day that day though, have not been able to duplicate it.

(Good people sleep peaceably in their beds at night only because rough men stand ready to do violence)

Sounds like you need one of these:
...and yes, they are as uncomfortable as they look. ;) Helps when using the sling too.
