ATLANTA, Aug. 22 (UPI) -- The mother of a man who claims to have killed JonBenet Ramsey tried to kill him when he was very young, a friend of the family said in Georgia.

George McCrary, who says he has known Wexford Karr, father of suspect John Karr, for 40 years, said the suspect's mother, Patricia Elaine Adcock, "made a big round donut (of kindling) and put him in the middle of it" when he was a baby, ABC News reported Tuesday.

"She just boxed the little baby in and tried to light it," McCrary said, but John's older brother Michael "came running in just before she got the flame to the flammable material."

Adcock was committed to a mental institution and the marriage broke up. She died in 2000.

Story contradicts widely reported story that mother died when he was 12.

No, it says 'when John was a baby.'

>>>Story contradicts widely reported story that mother died when he was 12.>>>

This story is incorrect in the date she died. He is going by an obit of someone named Patricia Karr (not by McCrary), it would not have been put in the paper that way. She died in the 1980 range.

And I thought the Ramsey family was weird. This has to one of the most bizarre murders in US history.

I am still not convinced that he killed her.

If his DNA matches the unknown DNA found at the crime scene, he did it.

Yup. I overheard on FOX the reporter talking about this guy's meals on the plane. Who gives a damn? I'm curious as to how many thousands of hours of air time this story has garnered.

Follow the link. It's direct from a recent UPI release, not a newspaper (doesn't mean it's correct).

Since it was just release on the UPI website, I don't know if it appeared in any newspaper at the time I posted.

If they're not talking about what he ate on the plane they're talking about his red DeLorean.

Talk about tabloid media.

One of the stations this morning said that earlier investigators had purchased and tested identical underwear - and that "untouched" package also had unknown DNA material on it, apparently from the manufacture or handling process.

Now, of course you're correct if the tests give a match...but I personally don't think that's gonna happen

Not necessarily. It would show he was there but not that he killed her. Admittedly, a good start, but they will still have a lot of work to do to establish guilt. With his mental background and the way the case is being outlined, there is going to be a problem getting past reasonable doubt. He hasn't even been charged yet and already he has an alibi, possible mental health history and inconsistencies in the confession.

How about banishing Karr/Ramsey/Holloway threads to the FR smoky back room?

Yeh. There are too many discrepancies. The DNA will be the most important. If the former wife can produce pix of him in Alabama that Christmas, that could ruin his story.

One theory is that he may have known Ramsey's older boys (previous marriage) and accompanied them from GA to CO that Christmas. But, didn't Patsy indicate that she did not know Karr until after he started emailing her.

Greta's on the case. I'm sure she will have it beat to a pulp by the time a decision is made.

Eerie. Like Dahmer's dad: "I thought something might be wrong when he was setting kittens on fire."

Yes. Iran is threatening to blow up the world. Islamo-terrorists are trying to blow up planes and trains and buildings and people. We have two major wars still going on in Afghanistan and Iraq.

But the MSM is stuck on a 10-year-old murder case.

I had to agree with, of all people, Neil Gabler on News Watch. He said the media had gone crazy over this story and spent way too much air/print time on it. [First time I ever, ever agreed with Gabler on anything.]
