Exclusive: 'I Married John Karr At 13'
ABC News/San Jose ^ | 8.23.06

Posted on 08/24/2006 7:56:34 AM PDT by apackof2

Quientana Ray was just 12 years old when she met John Mark Karr, the 41-year-old man under arrest for the 1996 murder of JonBenet Ramsey. Within a year, against her parents wishes, she and Karr, then 19, were married.

Ex-Wife Claims She Was Drugged, Abused

Ray said she met Karr at a party in Hamilton, Ala.,and he proceeded to seduce her. Her parents, Melissa and Larry Shotts, said they were opposed to the marriage.

The couple had a lengthy battle with Ray's parents over the relationship. According to Ray's parents, Karr became more defensive and threatening as they continued to oppose the couple's plans.

And Ray said Karr became a different person after they were married.

"I believed he loved me," she said. But her marriage to Karr lasted less than a year. That year, according to Ray, was a tumultuous one.

"I was drugged and things were done to me without me having any idea," said Ray, who is now married with a 4-month-old child.

In 1985, after nine months of marriage, Shotts filed for an annulment, complaining in court records that she was "fearful for her life and safety."

"If they're telling the truth about Karr, would it be admissable in court?"

Character witnesses?

"A 6 year old girl should not be wearing makeup and paraded around a stage. Period."

Amen.

There is some kind of "kid-fetish" this country has. I was watching a bluegrass program on public television once that seemed to be aimed at an older audience (most of the musicians were retired-age). Out of nowhere, they just started showing pictures of babies with bluegrass playing in the background. No names or anything, just pictures of babies and toddlers.

It creeped me out.

**There are too many freaks roaming around.**

That, and it messes up their head. Too many women put themselves through h#ll trying to look like beauty queens. And sadly, anything less than "beautiful" these days sometimes isn't good enough for a lot of people.

It's like that cute 11 year old singer on 'So you think you got talent'(can't remember her name) that was told by the one moron judge that she sang good but had to 'change your hair, change your clothes, change your shoes).

Next thing you know, instead of looking like an innocent kid, she looks like a small 'adult'.

Totally bull.

Let kids be kids.

The most memorable kid performers to me are the ones in commercials that look and act like KIDS. Some kids have talent. They don't have to be "little adults" to express it. Like you said, let 'em be kids.

Could you imagine what would have happened if they made over Shirley Temple?

Whatever happened to 'innocence'!

Yeah.

The nose is the same. The mouth is the same. And even the 'square jaw' seems to be the same.
Almost could have been sisters.

Scary and sad that she didn't get to grow up.

Yep. She retired in 1949 from acting. Still was very striking as she aged tho. Picture of her with the then Canadian Prime Minister.

Closer to 20. She was in her late teens when she made "Fort Apache."

Absolutely! The jury is the one who separates the truth from fiction. What worries me is this may go the same way as
Hinckly. His obsession paid off. Anyone who tries to assassinate a President should "automatically" get the needle.

She didn't look anything like that when Karr met and then married her. They also had some childhood photos from that time period on the national ABC/GMA segment yesterday morning.

She was a very very plain Jane brunette, somewhat pudgy, at least facewise. If I find one of the photos online, I'll come back later and post it. There is a huge difference in her looks from then to now.

She looked nothing like JonBenet then and nothing like herself now.

"She looked nothing like JonBenet then and nothing like herself now.:"

It's the current photo that the comparision is being made to,just as a 'guide'.

But thanks for the info.

Ok thanks

I thought I read somewhere that JonBenet wasn't a blond either but her mother dyed her hair for the beauty pageants?
