My Dell laptop has two keys. The "delete" key deletes the character that is where the cursor is. When I use this key, the cursor stays in the same place on the screen. It is therefore what I call a "delete in place" key (is there another term I should use instead?)
I also have a "backspace" key. This key is a destructive backspace key. When I press it, the cursor moves backward one space and deletes whatever was there before.
Our Macbook Pro has no key labeled "backspace." However, its "delete" key really is a destructive backspace key. I cannot, however, find a "true" "delete in place" key. Does the Macbook Pro have one? I tried to see if I can reprogram the "delete" key in system preferences, but don't see a screen to that effect.
Should I have a true delete key? Thanks.

Another reason I don't like Macs is because when you hit CTRL+ALT+DEL, nothing happens whereby in my Windows computer, it does a lot of useful stuff.

Wish I could help you. Mac has never made sense to me. Simple things where made insanely illogical or impossible. Why did you go with a Macbook?

Your Macbook has both a backspace key and a forward delete key. They are one and the same key... Used without a modifier it is a normal "Backspace" key... but hold down the Function key and it is a "Forward Delete" key... what you call a "delete in place"...
In other words, the "backspace" deletes to the left, and moves leftward as the characters are deleted. With the Function Key, the Backspace deletes to the right, and pulls the text to the right toward it as the next character to the right is deleted.
No, you're right, it doesn't... but then that is because it is not a Windows machine.
If you want some of the neat things, such as force quit, that CTRL+ALT+DEL does on a Windows machine, you press OPT+CMD+ESC. The rest are either not necessary on a Mac or are accessed differently.

I tried it and it worked... I lamented the lack of it since purchasing mine.

option-command-shift will let you force quit programs in Mac. Or just take your mouse to the Apple under Finder. The entire system rarely, if ever, requires a reboot -- although a USB card reader was causing one at work to do some funky things. Of course, once we pulled the card reader, we got control again. And once we stopped trying to connect it via the keyboard and used the ports on the back, we got the card reader working.

I know what you mean. I hope Microsoft releases a Bluetooth version of this keyboard soon.

Yes, it should if you want to force quit a program. But I tried option-command-shift and it gave me Spotlight with a larger, easier to read section. Thanks
Yep - that CTRL+ALT+DEL does a lot fo useful stuff - like help get you out of frozen programs, or to force reboot the computer when it hangs - again.
