That was funny, but the mods might delete our posts if we use a font like that...

I'm going to see what leftovers are available for me to eat, and finish cooking the sausage and (gag!) sauerkraut for hubby's dinner-back later...

This is the sequel to the horror show, "I Had To Reformat My Hard Drive." The computer works and I no longer get three pop ups every time I open internet destroyer, but the printer/scanner no longer works.

I'm going to have to reformat mine this weekend, so I can sympathatize. Talk about insuperable tasks.

A violent storm had knocked out my Ethernet connection. The router no longer interfaces with my DSL. Tried everything, got bounced back & forth between my ISP & computer manufacturer. Am doing the "format C" thing as a last resort.

Well, it seems to be working properly. I had to disconnect everything from the machine and format the drive, then connect the printer/scanner and install the drivers. That got it to recognize the printer and the scanner and both worked. It also got rid of the loop - new hardware detected; can't install new hardware . . .

After that, I installed the mouse and floppy, got those to work, then reestablished the internet connection. For my next trick, I will attempt to optimize the ethernet hookup to the cable modem. I'm paying for a 2 meg connection and getting 300k. This should be fun.

Thanks for your sympathy.

We got a whole-house surge protecter about 12 years ago, and it has been wonderful in saving us expensive losses.

The cable was not protected though (just 120 volt AC) and lightening has twice fried the TV and cable boxes. Now, that "way in" is protected also.

Good luck!

I hope you are feeling better this morning-have you ever tried taking Zicam or one of the other zinc and vitamin C remedies as soon as you feel the cold coming on? I'm absolutely sold on that stuff-it works really well and boosts your immune system, too.

i am feeling a bit better but i will look for that stuff to have it on hand in the house. xshub fended off a cold by eating copious amounts of those Vit C defense lozenges he said. my head feels less congested so i feel like i am on the upside from this.
