This may be a stupid question, but I just posted this thread in Chat, "Tears For The Amish".
Is there any chance to stick it in the news/activism section just for a while?
I just want as many people as possible to see this beautiful and touching picture which was first placed in the Pittsburgh Tribune Review.
Thanks ............ Thom

Another sad day. It makes no sense. I won't say more--don't want to ruin the thread.Of all the strange and sick things that happen in the world from day to day .......... this event is the most confounding, sadly disgusting, and irrational that I have ever seen.
It's just so awful.

The one in Bailey, CO left me equally perplexed. Why shoot the poor girl in the head? What was the point of taking someone out. I better stop. I'm going to ruin the thread.
To: beaversmom
I better stop. I'm going to ruin the thread. You won't ruin the thread.
One thing also to keep in mind in this terrible event is that there are still a number of these poor girls in the hospital who are said to be in "grave" condition.
I cannot believe a human being could do such a thing. I really cannot believe someone could do such a thing. It was rape of the entire Amish community and the killing of those innocent little girls.

Terribly devestating day for all those it affected. I know I was shocked and horrified with the news when it came across the radio as a news alert as I was not near a TV at the time the news broke.
The first thought in my mind was "who would do such a thing?" after thinking of all places an Amish one room schoolhouse.

Well I keep saying I'm going to ruin the thread for what I would like to say about what I would have liked done to these two animals. I thought the one in Bailey was pretty amazing because it's a small mountain town--probably no crime at all. But an Amish community? That's the last place on earth you would think this would happen. Has any more information come out about the animal that did this? Was he tied to that community in some way? I think I heard on the news that if the other girls make it, it will be a miracle. I don't even know how many in all have died and how many are in the hospital.

I can just imagine how devestated they all must be feeling right now. I've never visited Amish Country, but here in Montana we have Hutterite communities which are identical by design. They are probably the most friendly and resourceful group of people I've had the rare occasion to meet. The Hutterites have some of the best farmer's markets I've ever come across. You can buy everything from fruits, vegetables, and fresh homemade bread and they even produce extravagant furniture and fine wine, and one of the larger ones will be the future home of a wind turbine farm in northern Montana.
In fact, my mother's parents bought a set of wood table chairs that look as though they were made in the turn of the century. Beautiful pieces of work. Some furniture stores I've been by near the commune pay top dollar to the Hutterite's to showcase and resell their furniture in their stores and the Hutterites get a profit in return.

It's a great movie. When you get it, and I hope you do, you will love the scenes of the building of the house (one day the whole community gets together and builds the house).
There is also a great scene involving an ice cream cone.
But all in all, it's a great movie illustrating the lives of these good Amish people. Harrison Ford is fabulous in it too!

When I heard one of the cable talking heads refer to the movie Witness I was a little worried that it was not a good movie. Glad to know that for once I was wrong about the media agenda.
How very sad for these people. WABC reporting that authorities had a hard time convincing the parents to ride in the police vehicles to the hospitals.

There were many of us lamenting the media frenzy over Bailey and hoping that it didn't spawn a copy cat.
Spoke with my daughter last evening in CO and she was mighty distraught over the public information out on the sexual attacks on the girls at Bailey. She hates the media with a passion.
We can only pray for all those who suffer such tragedies in their communities.

4:30 am (est) She was on life support, her parents were with her when she died.
She was 7 years old.
The same hospital has two other girls under their care. A 6 year old is still in critical condition. A 13 year old has been upgraded to serious.

It's very confusing. All through the night, as I kept watch on the news stories, they never changed from three girls dead in the school, plus the gunman dead = 4 people dead.
Then, at some point before the death in the hospital, they clarified the number to be 2 little girls and a school aide. Then, another report said 3 little girls + the school aide + the shooter. Then they added the little girl's death at the hospital 3 hours ago.
That would seemingly equal 6 deaths, as the coroner had originally stated erroneously.
I believe that the school aide is getting counted twice, as a child and as a staff member. Gut feeling is that it's now 3 little girls who have died, plus the school aide, plus the gunman. That equals 5 deaths, total, from the senseless rampage.
I noticed yesterday afternoon that the governor was holding off on sending condolences, which told me his office didn't want to leave out the possible next 2-3 victims and their families, when the statement is issued.
Since one of the teens has been upgraded at the one hospital, it sounds like this might be a final total - except that there are 4-5 more victims at other hospitals around PA.
Prayers for all involved, and for the innocents in the shooter's family.

Let's not think of the millions that aren't bonkers. How about all the ones that have done something similar but were attendees of public school at the time or before.

Something I've been thinking about this morning...how many of those girls who were injured/killed were siblings? I'm sure there were sets of siblings and cousins in that schoolhouse.
