Game 2...again with no national anthem? John Cougar Mellencamp's "Our Country" is the anthem>?
>>John Cougar Mellencamp's "Our Country"
being used in a car ad I think...that could be why? anyway play ball
Game starting out on a sour note.
Go Cards!
John Cougar - Nice song, where have I heard it before . . .
Ladies and gentlemen, our National Anthem
"Little ditty, 'bout Jack & Diane, two 'merican kids growin'
up in the heartland..."
Go Tigers!
Play ball already!!!
Did they not sing the National Anthem last night, either? I missed the start of the game.
Next they'll cut to some actors in the crowd and point out their new Fox movie or series on Fox!
Well I'm cheering for the Tigers (AL guy) but right now I'm
drinking an alcoholic product from St. Louis (well, mine
was probably brewed in Merrimack, NH*)...you know,
Clydesdales and all...
*--took tour of the Bud plant for the second or third time in my life last year...and a few weeks ago, I drove by the
Merrimack brewery they have and yup you could smell the
hops and barley!
Are they playing this crap instead of the National Anthem, or are they just not televising the National Anthem?
hey they are doing National Anthem! Anita Baker.
I went to the Fort Collins Bud plant once upon a time.
I've also visited the mothership for Miller in Milwaukee.

Anita Baker is singing "The Star Spangled Banner" even as I write.
Go Tigers!!!!
OK that's much better. I thought they had abandoned the National Anthem all together.
Sparky Anderson shown in crowd. Only mgr I know of to win World Series in 2 different leagues. By the time this is over
either Leyland (Det) or LaRussa (Stl) will join that category
LaRussa w/ Oakland before
Leyland w/ Florida before
This is embarrassing. She's burchered the National Anthem.
(and Sparky w/ Reds, Tigers)
Yes...Bob Seger sang America The Beautiful".
See my #20
there's the Mellencamp ad again--Chevy Silverado. Why am I not surprised!
burchered = butchered
Anita Baker's singing = OUCH!!!!
Both off key and improvised -- a bad combo.
At least Anita Baker was genuinely thrilled to sing the national anthem. Good for her! She is one of the best ever, so I'll cut her a little slack now and then. Her spirit was refreshing, I gave a big cheer at the end of it!
interesting fact in my morning paper: before last night, the last time an NL team won a World Series game was Game 6 in
2003, when Josh Beckett and the Marlins beat the Yankees.
2004--Cardinals swept by Red Sox. Never even held a lead.
2005--White Sox sweep Astros
So last night the NL finally broke the drought. And to be honest, all those "Tigers will win easily" predictions
were squashed. This could go 6 or 7 and either team could
win.
I thought she was supposed to be good.
Go Cards.
Called third strike--what was it Harwell used to say? "He stood there and watched it go by, like the house by the
side of the road..."
GM paid for another commercial.
Yeah..you tend to look at it when it is actually a ball.
By the seventh inning the crowd will be singing that traditional song: "I hear those sleigh bells jingling,
ring, ting, tingling too/ Come on it's lovely weather for a
sleigh ride together with you..."
(by the way it's been pointed out that the "giddyup, giddyup,
giddyup let's go" part of that song sounds like part of
the baseball/sports theme for Fox...)
remember...WS ended in Nov once
In 2001 baseball took a few days off due to 9/11, what with respect for the victims and planes grounded. By the time
game 7 of the WS was played (Yanks beaten by Arizona) it
was Nov. 4...
Looks like Rodgers'pitching hand thumb is bruised...or they're suggesting it could be a foreign substance.
MONROE GOES DEEP! 1-0 Tigers
okie dokie.
2-0 Ordonez scores all the way from first
Curse you, (Scranton/Wilkes-Barre) Red Barons!
The team that moved (from New Haven CT) to Manchester NH in the Eastern League orig. wanted to be called the N.H. Primaries, but fans objected and the name Fisher Cats (a kind of weasel) was chosen instead.
NH PRIMARIES (never went to bat under that name...)
Uncle Sam at the bat!
NY-Penn League's Hudson Valley Renegades: they steal bases like those masked bandits raid your trash!
The Expos' farm team in Burlington VT...still affiliated with the organization (now the Wash. Nationals); they ditched the Expos name but dubbed themselves the Lake Monsters--perhaps due to popularity of their mascot sea monster Champ! (as in Lake Champlain)
Is Burl Ives singing at the seventh inning stretch??
One year in St. Louis, I went to both the hottest game (105 degrees) and the coldest (40). I enjoyed the hot game better.
Heard that the temp was 100 degrees on the field.
Iggles lost! Too hot for McNabb, poor baby.
Ouch...that ball bounced up right where you don't want it to...the replay looked painful.
That has to be the definition of 'leaning into a pitch'.
perfect bunt laid down--Tigers have bases loaded
Tigers couldn't capitalize on that situation...but came back to blank Cards in top of 5th. Good pitching on both sides but which pitcher will crack/get tired first?
1 out triple
